Abstract

Comfort in a vehicle usually uses an air conditioning system. AC is a type of machine that works following a thermodynamic cycle, namely the vapor compression cycle. A refrigeration machine depends on the ability of the compressor to meet the amount of refrigerant gas that needs to be circulated. The compressor is a tool for pumping cooling material (refrigerant) so that it continues to circulate in the system. The performance of the car's AC compressor is controlled by the thermostat, where the thermostat signals whether it is active or not active depending on whether the temperature in the car has been reached or not.This research includes variations in cooling load with a fixed compressor rotation of 759 RPM, each variation of cooling load is tested with a fixed compressor rotation of 759 RPM using one R-134a refrigerant to determine the COP, then this research is continued by calculating the on-off time of the compressor. to save energy used.The results of the research carried out show that the greater the cooling load, the greater the compressor inlet pressure and compressor outlet pressure (∆P = P1 – P2).

Abstract

To determine the quality of brake pads, this writing explains the method for assessing the quality of Mitsubishi and Indopart brake pads through three testing processes: Brinell hardness test, wear test, and material composition test. In the Brinell hardness test, data is obtained by creating specimens for each brake pad, and each specimen undergoes testing at 3 different points on the brake pad surface. The wear test follows a similar procedure to the hardness test, but the results are obtained using a wear testing machine. For the material composition test, the dominant elements present in the brake pads are determined using analytical chemical solutions. This allows identification of the dominant elements in both Mitsubishi and Indopart brake pads.

Abstract

While the goals and objectives of the study to analyze the physical properties and mechanical properties of the P1 Pindad Pistol barrel spring hook material because the barrel spring hook is a very important part of the barrel, especially the gun. If the spring hook of this barrel becomes or breaks then the development process will not be such that the project will not go according to the plan of the barrel.From the results of the tests that have been carried out both the test and the test the final result cannot be concluded that the results of the test are the result of the process.easily damaged or brittle clean, but from the results of micro trials produced a lot of mistakes, because in the process of heat treatment of the barrel is not to form a bainit structure that makes steel strong resistance to pressure.Suggestions from the author for the manufacture of the barrel forward so that in the process of special heat treatment when cooling is attempted to form bainit which makes the barrel becomes ductile and not easily broken or damaged.

Abstract

Analysis in this case the Indonesian Army as a national defense tool requires a strong vehicle in all fields. Especially in the vehicle engine requires a type of lubricant that suits the characteristics of the engine. So that the performance of the vehicle engine can be maximized. In addition, with the right lubricant, maintenance costs, equipment replacement costs can be more efficient and fuel consumption is more efficient. The piston is a part that always moves continuously, so that lubrication can reduce friction and reduce wear on the piston. With proper lubrication, the piston will be more durable. In this analysis, we try to find the best type of lubricant that is resistant to wear from friction. So that the type of lubricant that is suitable is obtained according to the characteristics of the engine. And knowing how resistant to wear.

Abstract

This research analyzes the differences in physical and mechanical properties between the firing pin of the SS1-V1, manufactured by Pindad, and the firing pin of the M16-A1, manufactured in the United States. The main focus is to determine the cause of frequent damage to the SS1-V1 firing pin, while the M16-A1 firing pin does not experience similar issues. Testing included hardness tests, microstructure analysis, and material composition analysis, showing that although both pins have similar material structures, there are significant differences in composition and design. As a result, the author recommends changes in the composition, structure, and design of the SS1-V1 firing pin to make it stronger and more durable.

Abstract

The Military Academy has high vehicle mobility, particularly motorcycles that are intensively used as a means of transportation within the academy environment. High usage leads to wear and tear on engine components, especially the valve seat, which can affect fuel efficiency and engine power. This study aims to analyze the replacement material for the valve seat on a Honda CB 100 CC motorcycle through material composition testing, hardness testing, and microstructure analysis. The research results indicate that the original valve seat is made of an alloy steel containing chromium and a small amount of nickel, with characteristics similar to the XW-5 material produced by Krakatau Steel. The microstructure analysis reveals a dominance of ferrite and pearlite, which can lead to material brittleness at high temperatures. Therefore, selecting a material that is more heat- and wear-resistant is crucial in designing a replacement valve seat. This study is expected to provide a solution for maintaining and improving the efficiency of motorcycles at the Military Academy while addressing the issue of spare part shortages.

Abstract

Gears function to transmit high power and precise rotation through interlocking teeth. Gears are superior to other transmission systems as they are more compact, capable of transmitting large power with high efficiency, and have a minimal risk of slipping. Additionally, gears can withstand higher loads and allow for speed variations as needed. One commonly used type is the bevel gear, where the pitch surface forms a cone with its apex at the intersection of the shaft axes. Straight bevel gears are the easiest to manufacture and frequently used, although they produce significant noise due to their low contact ratio. Other types of bevel gears include spiral bevel gears, helical bevel gears, and hypoid gears, each with unique characteristics and advantages in transmission systems.

Abstract

To support the vehicle’s high operational activity, a redesign of the shock absorber suspension system on the Bimantara Nenggala vehicle is required. The goal is to make the shock absorber stronger and more durable when traversing rough road surfaces. This is because the Bimantara Nenggala vehicle, which is one of the official vehicles used at the Military Academy, has experienced frequent damage to its shock absorbers during use. The redesign was carried out by changing the steel wire diameter from 14 mm to 16 mm. The research results show that by increasing the wire diameter from 14 mm to 16 mm, the solid length of the spring changed from 56 mm to 96 mm. This modification also altered the number of coils from 2.5 to 4.5, and the spring deflection increased from 39.38 mm to 41.48 mm. This design demonstrates that using a 16 mm wire diameter provides better performance compared to a 14 mm wire diameter. Additionally, the resulting deflection and number of coils are improved compared to the original design.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of valve clearance adjustment on compression pressure and fuel consumption in the Isuzu Panther Bravo vehicle. The background of this research is based on the frequent inaccuracies in valve clearance adjustments caused by the improper use of measuring tools, such as using paper instead of a proper fuller gauge. Incorrect valve clearance settings can lead to various engine problems. When the valve clearance is too tight, the compression pressure becomes low, the engine overheats easily, fuel consumption increases, engine power decreases, and the engine becomes difficult to start. Conversely, if the valve clearance is too wide, the compression pressure also decreases, engine power is reduced, and a knocking or “ticking” sound appears when the engine is running. The research was conducted using nine different valve clearance settings, both for the intake and exhaust valves, ranging from 0.20 mm to 0.60 mm. Each variation was tested using a compression pressure gauge to measure the resulting pressure for each setting. The test results showed varying but relatively close values, so an average was calculated to determine the most ideal valve clearance. The findings of this study are expected to provide practical guidance in setting the correct valve clearance to achieve optimal compression pressure and maximum fuel efficiency in the Isuzu Panther Bravo engine. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of using the proper measuring instrument, such as a fuller gauge, to ensure accuracy in valve clearance adjustments.
