Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of body mass index to the level of physical fitness of junior high school students in Medan City in 2023. This study used descriptive analytic method. The sample amounted to 23 people, obtained by purposive sample. To determine the correlation of body mass index to the level of physical fitness is sought using the product moment formula. This research uses body mass index test instruments and physical fitness tests carried out to find out data on research variables, namely body mass index data and student physical fitness tests. From the results of statistical analysis, the correlation coefficient between body mass index and physical fitness is rcount = 0.55. To find out how much the contribution of body mass index to the level of physical fitness is calculated with R = (0.55)2 x 100% = 30.25%. The contribution is 30.25%. Thus the hypothesis that states there is a contribution of body mass index to the level of physical fitness of junior high school students in Medan City in 2023 can be accepted in this study. This research opens insights into knowledge for teachers, especially physical education teachers so that this information can be applied in schools.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has had a significant impact on the world of education, including in the process of physical education learning. Learning, which was previously only done conventionally, has now shifted towards digitization and the use of application-based technology. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of mobile application-based blended learning in improving students' cognitive and affective competencies in physical education. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The research subjects consisted of 60 high school students divided into two groups, namely the experimental group (n=30) who used mobile application-based blended learning and the control group (n=30) who used conventional learning. The results showed that the experimental group experienced an increase in cognitive scores from 56.4 to 82.7 and affective scores from 60.1 to 85.3. Meanwhile, the control group experienced an increase in cognitive scores from 55.8 to 69.4 and affective scores from 59.7 to 70.2. The t-test results showed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). This study concluded that mobile application-based blended learning is effective in improving students' cognitive and affective competencies.

Abstract

Cardiovascular endurance is a fundamental component of physical fitness that significantly influences both health and physical performance. In physical education, assessing cardiovascular endurance is essential to monitor students’ fitness levels. However, laboratory-based tests such as the graded exercise test (GXT) are often impractical due to the need for specialized equipment and high costs. Therefore, there is a need for a simpler, more efficient, yet valid alternative instrument one of which is the aerobic step test. This study employed a quantitative approach with a criterion validity design. The research subjects consisted of 30 Physical Education students selected through purposive sampling. The primary instrument was the aerobic step test, in which recovery heart rate (HR1rec) was measured, while the comparative instrument was the graded exercise test (GXT) for VO₂max assessment. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test, simple linear regression, and Bland Altman agreement analysis with the assistance of SPSS software. The findings revealed a strong correlation between VO₂max derived from the aerobic step test and that obtained from GXT (r = 0.812; p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination indicated that the step test could explain 65.9% of the variance in VO₂max (R² = 0.659). Bland Altman analysis demonstrated a bias of –0.77 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹ with limits of agreement of ±4.85, which is considered practically acceptable for field application. The aerobic step test is validated as a simple, practical, and efficient tool for assessing cardiovascular endurance among students. This instrument can serve as a reliable alternative to laboratory-based fitness testing in physical education settings where laboratory facilities are unavailable.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a tutorial video-based learning media using biomechanical analysis for petanque shooting techniques as a training support tool. The background of this research is the difficulty experienced by athletes in understanding and applying proper shooting techniques due to the limited use of instructional media during training sessions. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method by adapting the 4D model, which consists of define, design, development, and disseminate stages. The research instruments were assessment questionnaires administered to material experts, media experts, petanque coaches, and athletes. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results indicate that the developed tutorial video-based learning media achieved good to very good categories in terms of material content, learning aspects, display, and programming. Athlete assessments also showed positive responses toward the use of the media in shooting training. Therefore, the tutorial video-based learning media using biomechanical analysis is feasible and effective as a supporting medium to enhance athletes’ understanding of petanque shooting techniques.

Abstract

Problems in badminton learning and training in elementary schools are still commonly found in long service skills, such as incorrect stroke techniques, lack of arm strength, and inaccurate shuttlecock direction. One form of physical training that is thought to affect long service skills is push-up training. This study aims to determine the effect of push-up training on long service skills in elementary school extracurricular students. The research method used is a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The research subjects consisted of 15 fourth and fifth grade students who participated in badminton extracurricular activities at UPT SD Negeri 060879. Data collection techniques were carried out through a badminton long service test conducted before (pretest) and after (posttest) the push-up training treatment for six weeks. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed an increase in badminton long service ability after push-up training, with a pretest average score of 22.06 and an increase to 39.46 on the posttest. These findings indicate that push-up training has a positive effect on improving students' badminton long service ability. Thus, push-up training can be used as an alternative physical exercise to support the improvement of basic badminton skills in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes of the side kick technique in pencak silat through the application of the command teaching style and learning variations among Grade XI MIA 3 students of SMA Negeri 3 Medan in the 2019/2020 academic year. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research instruments included a portfolio-based assessment covering the initial stance, execution, and final stance of the side kick technique, as well as a learning outcomes test at the end of each cycle. The findings indicated an improvement in students’ mastery learning, from the initial data of 38.89% (14 students) to 52.78% (19 students) in Cycle I with an average score of 84.7 and further increased in Cycle II to 88.89% (32 students) with an average score of 91.9. Therefore, the implementation of the command teaching style and learning variations can improve learning outcomes of the pencak silat side kick technique among Grade XI MIA 3 students of SMA Negeri 3 Medan.

Abstract

Non-manipulative basic motor skills are fundamental abilities that need to be developed from an early age as a basis for mastering further motor skills. However, initial observations show that the non-manipulative basic motor skills of first-grade students at MIS Al-Barkah Percut Sei Tuan are still in the low category. This study aims to improve non-manipulative basic motor skills through the application of Medan collaborative gymnastics. The research method used was classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, with 20 first-grade students at MIS Al-Barkah Percut Sei Tuan as the research subjects. Each cycle consisted of the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation of students' basic non-manipulative motor skills, while data analysis was conducted using quantitative descriptive methods. The results showed an increase in students' non-manipulative basic motor skills from cycle I to cycle II after the implementation of Medan collaborative gymnastics. This improvement was seen in the aspects of balance, flexibility, and coordination of students' movements. Thus, the implementation of Medan collaborative gymnastics proved to be effective in improving the non-manipulative basic motor skills of first-grade students at MIS Al-Barkah Percut Sei Tuan.
