Abstract

Nagari Sijunjung Indigenous Village, located in Sijunjung Regency, is a community with substantial agricultural potential. Rice is one of the primary commodities cultivated in this village. Currently, rice farming relies on a rain-fed system, which is highly dependent on the rainy season, resulting in synchronized planting schedules. This practice significantly increases the volume of rice straw waste after the harvest season, while its utilization remains suboptimal. One viable solution to address this issue is processing rice straw into compost. The aim of this program was to enhance the knowledge and skills of local residents in composting rice straw. The socialization activity was attended by 14 participants from Nagari Sijunjung Indigenous Village. Pretests and posttests were employed as evaluation tools to measure changes in participants' knowledge before and after the socialization sessions. The results indicated an improvement in the participants' understanding, as reflected by an increase in the average pretest score from 85.71 to a posttest average score of 87.14. However, among the variables assessed in the pretest and posttest, two variables exhibited a decline in average scores, suggesting that participants’ understanding of these specific aspects requires further attention and improvement.

Abstract

Developing sustainable tourism necessitates innovative approaches that integrate environmental conservation, community engagement, and effective knowledge transfer. This study investigates the power of storytelling and knowledge management as catalysts for social transformation within educational tourism along Indonesia's highly polluted Citarum River. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research collected quantitative data from 79 university students via questionnaires assessing their knowledge and perceptions of the Citarum River and sustainable tourism. Qualitative data came from a content analysis of "Menjaga Citarum" (Preserving Citarum) educational materials, which wove together historical narratives, ecological facts, and local cultural values. The findings reveal that storytelling, when combined with direct environmental action and participatory learning, significantly boosts students' environmental awareness and emotional engagement. Participants showed a greater understanding of pollution issues and a stronger commitment to sustainable behavior, highlighting the importance of community-based knowledge systems. This study demonstrates how local narratives and experiential learning can foster ecological responsibility and social engagement, offering practical guidance for impactful educational tourism programs.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of action-based educational tourism on bridging the "knowledge-action gap" within environmental education. The research aims to evaluate how motivation, awareness, knowledge, and active participation through the "SatuBumi River Cleanup" program shape the pro-environmental behavior (PEB) of high school and university students. Using a quantitative-explanatory method with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), data were collected from 206 respondents via purposive sampling. The results reveal that environmental motivation (beta = 0.403) and active participation (beta = 0.279) are the primary drivers of sustainable behavioral change, while environmental knowledge showed no statistical significance (beta = 0.021). The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Richards’ 3S storytelling framework with physical waste mitigation, transforming polluted river ecosystems into "living laboratories" for socio-ecological transformation. This study challenges the traditional information-delivery paradigm by demonstrating that emotional resonance and physical agency are more effective than theoretical instruction. The implication for educational science suggests a shift toward experiential, narrative-driven pedagogy to foster genuine ecological stewardship. By providing empirical evidence of how immersive environments catalyze behavioral shifts, this research contributes to the broader development of science in educational methodology, advocating for the institutionalization of action-based learning to achieve long-term sustainability goals.

Abstract

This study examines the misalignment between the normative Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) curriculum and the socio-cultural realities of students within the Islamic Wetu Telu tradition in Bayan Traditional Village, North Lombok. Such disconnection may hinder effective educational communication and weaken the development of religious moderation. The study aims to formulate a PAI learning model grounded in the syncretic values of Islam Wetu Telu and to assess its validity and effectiveness through the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) framework. Employing a qualitative Integrated Conceptual–Empirical Study design, this research combines a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to map core Wetu Telu values onto the seven CTL components and a case study based on in-depth interviews with PAI teachers, the school principal, and traditional leaders at SMPN 6 Bayan. The findings demonstrate that values of tolerance, social cohesion, and ecological awareness can be systematically integrated into CTL-based PAI instruction and implemented through the T5 Program. The model effectively bridges normative Islamic teachings and local cultural practices, particularly within the learning community and modeling components, thereby strengthening students’ religious moderation. The study concludes that integrating Wetu Telu local wisdom into CTL-based PAI offers a context-responsive pedagogical model, although its sustainability requires consistent curriculum support and enhanced teacher cultural competence.

Abstract

This study develops and examines an educational material that integrates mathematics learning with environmental awareness, titled Mathematics in Action: Counting Waste, Saving the Earth. Designed for learners aged 8 to 12, the material connects core arithmetic concepts such as addition, multiplication, and estimation with real-world environmental issues, particularly waste management. Using authentic local data from the Citarum River in West Java as a contextual anchor, students engage in mathematical activities that encourage reflection on personal consumption habits and the long-term ecological impact of daily behavior. Employing a descriptive qualitative design that combines a systematic literature review and semi-structured interviews with mathematics teachers, the study synthesizes key perspectives from Environmental Education, Contextual Mathematics, and Problem-Based Learning. The findings indicate that embedding mathematics within environmental contexts enhances student engagement, critical thinking, and emotional connection to sustainability issues. Furthermore, the material aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), offering a practical and values-driven model for integrating ecological literacy into elementary mathematics curricula. This research contributes to the broader discourse on interdisciplinary education and demonstrates how foundational math skills can foster environmental responsibility from an early age.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of local wisdom values in Aqidah Akhlak learning at MTsN Babul Mujahidin, Bayan, North Lombok. Aqidah Akhlak learning plays an important role in shaping students’ religious and social character; however, it is often delivered in a general manner and is insufficiently adapted to students’ cultural backgrounds. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the integration of local wisdom values into Aqidah Akhlak learning contributes to improvements in students’ religious behavior and social attitudes. Students demonstrate higher discipline in performing congregational prayers, stronger awareness of mutual cooperation, and greater respect for teachers and peers. In addition, students from pesantren backgrounds exhibit more consistent religious practices compared to non-pesantren students. The implementation of local cultural practices, such as deliberation (musyawarah) and communal activities, helps students internalize moral values in a more contextual and meaningful way. This study concludes that integrating local wisdom into Islamic education can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening students’ character by connecting religious teachings with their socio-cultural environment

Abstract

This study develops and validates a strategic management model for experiential educational tourism aimed at fostering Pro-Environmental Behavior (PEB) among youth. Addressing a critical research gap, this research provides an empirically tested framework linking field-based interventions to measurable behavioral outcomes. Rooted in Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory (ELT), the quantitative study employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using data collection from 30 high school students (n = 30) participating in a River Cleanup program, an educational tourism activity integrating storytelling and environmental restoration work. Survey instruments assessed constructs including awareness, knowledge, motivation, participation, and behavior. The results confirmed the reliability of the proposed framework, explaining 69.5% of the PEB variance  (R2 = 0.695). Crucially, motivation to preserve nature (β = 0.471; p = 0.010) and environmental knowledge (β = 0.312; p=0.024) emerged as the strongest and most significant predictors. The large effect size of motivation (f2 = 0.308) underscores the importance of affective and normative components, aligning with Value-Belief-Norm (VBN) Theory, over mere physical participation. Although limited by the small sample size, this research demonstrates that strategically managed experiential intervention can significantly influence youth environmental behavior. This paper contributes to the literature by bridging tourism, environmental education, and management science, while offering a validated model for designing scalable sustainability programs.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of the Islamic Wetu Telu syncretism on Fiqh education at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah Babul Mujahidin, which is situated in the Traditional Village of Bayan in North Lombok. The teaching of Fiqh in the madrasah does not occur in a socially neutral environment; it is shaped by the local cultural and religious practices. The aim of this research is to explore how these local values influence students' understanding and attitudes towards religion. A qualitative case study method was employed for this purpose. Data was gathered through observation, in-depth interviews with five teachers and thirty students, as well as an analysis of educational documents. Data analysis was conducted in both descriptive and analytical ways, focusing on the interaction between local religious practices and Fiqh education. Findings indicate that the syncretism of Islamic Wetu Telu significantly impacts students' comprehension of Fiqh, especially regarding ritual worship. Approximately 68% of students reported challenges in grasping worship practices due to discrepancies between family traditions and normative Fiqh teachings, while 57% of teachers observed that students tended to follow the guidance of traditional leaders more than formal instructions. Despite these obstacles, local values such as community cohesion, respect for traditional authority, and social balance serve as positive social capital when applied through a contextual and dialogical teaching approach. The study concludes that the Islamic Wetu Telu syncretism does not necessarily impede formal Islamic education; rather, it can act as an educational bridge if managed in a contextual and dialogical manner. These findings underscore the significance of cultural sensitivity in developing Fiqh instruction within local communities.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) analyzes research trends in Educational Tourism (2019–2024) by applying Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) framework. The study specifically investigates how the Educational Tourism approach supports the principles of Sustainable Tourism and its positioning in addressing the complex issue of Climate Change. Methodology: The research employed an SLR supported by bibliometric analysis and thematic synthesis of 447 Scopus-indexed articles. The ELT framework (comprising Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, and Active Experimentation) was used as a conceptual lens to test the balance of thematic focus across the literature. Main Findings: The analysis revealed a systemic imbalance within the literature. While the Abstract Conceptualization and Concrete Experience stages show strong documentation, the Reflective Observation is the most minimally discussed theme (65.55%). This gap indicates that current research tends to bypass the critical evaluation process, thus failing to methodologically validate the internal mechanism required to link direct experience to lasting sustainable behavior. This methodological weakness hinders the sector's ability to effectively tackle complex, large-scale issues like Climate Change and Environmental Protection. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes by being the first to systematically apply the ELT framework to diagnose the thematic maturity of Educational Tourism, explicitly identifying Reflective Observation as the most critical theoretical and methodological gap.
