Abstract

This study discusses the reader's reception of the poem "Hujan Bulan June" by Sapardi Djoko Damono using the horizon theory of hope in the perspective of Hans Robert Jauss. The poem depicts the themes of love, patience, and sacrifice in silence, with the metaphor of rain falling in June as a symbol of love that is not expressed directly. This research aims to analyze how readers understand and interpret the meaning of these poems based on their expectations, experiences, and cultural contexts. The approach used is a qualitative descriptive method with literature study techniques. The results of the study show that readers can interpret this poem through three dimensions: fortitude, wisdom, and sincerity in facing certain feelings or situations. The meaning of this poem is not fixed, but rather develops according to the reader's horizon of expectations, which is influenced by their social, cultural, and experience backgrounds

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of gender injustice experienced by the mother and daughter characters in the film If Mother Didn't Marry Father using radical feminism studies. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis methods. The research data consists of dialogue, scenes, and character behavior that indicate gender injustice in the film. The analysis was conducted using the theory of radical feminism proposed by Kate Millett which emphasizes criticism of the patriarchal system in social life. The results of the study show that the mother and daughter characters in the film experience various forms of gender injustice, such as subordination, marginalization, and restrictions on freedom in determining life choices. These conditions arise due to the strong influence of the patriarchal system in the family that places men as the party with greater power. Through this film, it can be seen that power relations within the family play a major role in shaping the gender injustice experienced by women. This study is expected to provide an understanding of how film media represents the issue of gender injustice in family life.

Abstract

Work uniforms are a form of visual text that is closely related to the everyday experiences of elementary school students and has the potential to be utilized as contextual learning media. This study aims to analyze Indomaret employee uniforms as a system of visual signs and to examine their potential as visual literacy media in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach grounded in Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory, which includes icons, indexes, and symbols. The analysis focuses on the visual elements of the uniform, such as color, logos, clothing design, and accessories, as well as their relationship to the construction of meanings that can be understood by elementary school students. The findings indicate that Indomaret employee uniforms contain visual signs that are easily recognizable and relevant for use as instructional materials, particularly in descriptive text learning and in strengthening students’ ability to interpret symbolic meanings. Utilizing uniforms as contextual learning media can support the development of students’ visual literacy, critical thinking skills, and understanding of signs in everyday life. This study provides practical implications for elementary school teachers in designing Indonesian language instruction that is more meaningful, contextual, and oriented toward students’ real-life experiences.
