Abstract

Industrial waste management is a crucial aspect of maintaining environmental sustainability and the health of communities around industrial areas. This study aims to empower the community through education on industrial waste management at Jordan Bakery Factory in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi. The methods used were participatory observation and interviews with the waste management staff at the factory. The results of the community service show that the factory has implemented a good system for managing liquid and solid waste, including a liquid waste filtration process and economic utilization of solid waste. In addition, the service team also prepared educational materials in the form of pamphlets containing information about types of waste, proper management methods, and the environmental impact of waste. This education is expected to increase awareness and participation among the community and factory workers in responsible waste management. This study contributes positively to environmentally friendly and sustainable industrial waste management in the Kendari area

Abstract

Househoid waste management continues to be an environmental issue because of the growing amount of waste and poor involvement from the community in handling it. The waske bank intiatiative represents a community-driven approach to managing waste that seeks to enhance environmental consciousness while offering economic advantages by making use of recycled materials. The purporse of this research is to explore the connection between motivation and economic incentives and the engagement of housewives in the waste bank initiative in Mokoau Village, Kambu District, Kendari City, in 2026. This research employs a quantitative methodology with a cross-sectional desigh. Information was gathered through a questionnaire administered to 30 participanst chosen using a total sampling method. The gathered data were examined using the IBM SPSS Statistics software via univariate and bivariate analysis incorporating the Chi-Square Test. The findings indicated that a majority of participants exhibited strong motivation, with 21 individuals representing 70.0%, and substantial degree of involvement, with 24 individuals making up 80.0%. The statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 1.000, exceeding 0.05, indicates that there was no substantial connection between motivation and the involvement of housewives in the waste bank initiative. Factors like environmental assistance also affect community engagement, infrastructure, knowledge, and economic incentives. Therefore, ongoing community education and empowerment are needed to increase participation in environmentally-based waste management.

Abstract

Solid waste management is still a major issue in supporting environmental sustainability in higher education institutions. Campus activities produce various types of waste that should be sorted directly from the source to support more effective waste management. This study aimed to examine the effect of the availability of separated waste bins on the effectiveness of waste sorting in the university environment. This research used a quantitative approach with a survey design involving 53 students who had knowledge of or experience in using separated waste bin facilities on campus. The data were collected online and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics through validity, reliability, normality, linearity, and simple linear regression tests. The results showed that the research instruments were reliable, with Cronbach’s Alpha values of 0.867 for variable X and 0.934 for variable Y. The data were normally distributed and had a linear relationship. The simple linear regression test showed that the availability of separated waste bins had a positive and significant effect on waste sorting effectiveness, with a significance value of 0.000 and a regression coefficient of 0.670. These findings indicate that the provision of accessible, clearly labeled, and adequate separated waste bins, accompanied by continuous education, can encourage better waste sorting behavior in academic environments.
