Abstract

Abstract This study aims to examine the role of libraries as public spaces in promoting inclusivity through the implementation of the Human Library service. The Human Library is developed as a strategic innovation to reduce stigmatization and stereotypes against minority groups and marginalized communities. This research employs a literature study method by systematically analyzing various scholarly works and relevant literature related to the research topic. The data analysis process involves the collection of literature, selection of credible sources, identification of key issues, interpretation of findings, and comprehensive data presentation. The results indicate that libraries, as public spaces, play a significant role in fostering an inclusive environment through the Human Library service. Libraries are no longer merely repositories of collections but have transformed into spaces for interaction, sharing of experiences, and fostering mutual understanding among individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and life experiences. Keywords: Public space, inclusivity, human library Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran perpustakaan sebagai ruang publik dalam upaya mewujudkan inklusivitas melalui implementasi layanan Human Library. Layanan ini dikembangkan sebagai inovasi strategis untuk mengurangi stigmatisasi dan stereotip terhadap kelompok minoritas serta komunitas yang terpinggirkan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi literatur, dengan melakukan analisis sistematis terhadap berbagai karya tulis dan literatur yang relevan dengan tema penelitian. Proses analisis data melibatkan tahapan pengumpulan literatur, seleksi sumber yang kredibel, identifikasi isu-isu utama, penafsiran terhadap temuan literatur, serta penyajian data secara komprehensif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perpustakaan sebagai ruang publik berkontribusi secara signifikan dalam membangun lingkungan yang inklusif melalui layanan Human Library. Perpustakaan tidak lagi hanya berfungsi sebagai tempat penyimpanan koleksi, melainkan juga menjadi wahana interaksi, berbagi pengalaman, serta pemahaman antarindividu dari beragam latar belakang, identitas, dan pengalaman hidup Kata Kunci: Ruang public perpustakaan, inklusivitas, human library

Abstract

This research aims to analyze human libraries in building an inclusive environment with a focus on a living collection case study at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga library. Qualitative and descriptive research methods were used. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and a literature study. The results show that users are aware of the existence of living collections through user education activities and part-time experience programs. There are two factors that encourage users to access residential collections: internal and external. The internal factors that influence users to utilize live collections are curiosity and curiosity. External factors that influence users to utilize residential collections for research purposes. There is a Living collection Program that has a positive impact as a figure that inspires users. Procedurally, there were no significant barriers to accessing the living collections.

Abstract

Background of the study: Vocational academic libraries face challenges in implementing ideal collection development principles due to resource constraints, creating a gap between theory and practice. Purpose: To analyze the application of Ranganathan's Five Laws as an adaptive framework for collection management in the small-scale AFIYO Library. Method: A qualitative study with a single case design, using in-depth interviews, participant observation for 10 weeks, and document analysis. Data were analyzed through thematic analysis with source triangulation. Findings: (1) Collaboration with lecturers improved collection relevance by 71%; (2) Limited budget (IDR 10 million/year) triggered strict selection focused on D3 Pharmacy curriculum needs; (3) Multi-channel promotion strategies enhanced new collection visibility; (4) OPAC and personal service combination created contextual efficiency; (5) Networking served as alternative growth strategy replacing acquisition. Conclusion: This study recontextualizes Ranganathan's Five Laws for resource-constrained libraries and provides an adaptable collection policy framework for similar vocational libraries. Keywords: Collection Development, Ranganathan's Five Laws, Vocational Libraries, Collection Management, Information Access --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABSTRAK   Penerapan Lima Hukum Ranganathan dalam Manajemen Koleksi di Perpustakaan Akademi Farmasi Indonesia Yogyakarta Latar Belakang: Perpustakaan akademik vokasional menghadapi tantangan implementasi prinsip pengembangan koleksi ideal akibat keterbatasan sumber daya, menciptakan kesenjangan antara teori dan praktik Tujuan: Menganalisis penerapan Lima Hukum Ranganathan sebagai kerangka kerja adaptif untuk manajemen koleksi di Perpustakaan AFIYO yang berskala kecil. Metode: Penelitian kualitatif dengan studi kasus tunggal, menggunakan wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipan selama 10 minggu, dan analisis dokumen. Data dianalisis melalui teknik analisis tematik dengan triangulasi sumber. Temuan: (1) Kolaborasi dengan dosen meningkatkan relevansi koleksi hingga 71%; (2) Anggaran terbatas (Rp 10 juta/tahun) memicu seleksi ketat yang berfokus pada kebutuhan kurikulum D3 Farmasi; (3) Strategi promosi multi-saluran meningkatkan visibilitas koleksi baru; (4) Kombinasi OPAC dan layanan personal menciptakan efisiensi kontekstual; (5) Jejaring kerja sama menjadi strategi pertumbuhan alternatif pengganti akuisisi. Kesimpulan: Studi ini merekontekstualisasi Lima Hukum Ranganathan untuk perpustakaan terbatas sumber daya dan menyediakan kerangka kebijakan koleksi yang dapat diadaptasi oleh perpustakaan vokasional sejenis.
