Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Febriyani Andri Pai, NIM 2201140125, 2026. Thesis titled “The Effect of the Dictation Method on the Ability to Write Simple Sentences Among First-Grade Class 1B Students at UPTD SD Negeri Oebobo 2.” Supervised by Markus Sampe, S.Pd., M.M and Rista Apriliya Devi, M.Pd. This study was motivated by the low ability of Grade 1B students at UPTD SD Negeri Oebobo 2 in writing simple sentences, indicated by spelling errors, letter reversals, and difficulties in arranging words into sentences. The study aimed to determine the effect of the dictation method on students’ simple sentence writing ability. A quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design was employed. The sample consisted of 18 students. Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis included validity and reliability tests, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and hypothesis testing using the Paired Sample t-Test with SPSS version 27. The results showed that the instrument was valid and reliable, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.710. The normality test indicated that all data were normally distributed. Hypothesis testing showed that the simple sentence structure variable (Y1) had a significance value of 0.215 (>0.05), indicating no significant effect. In contrast, the accuracy variable (Y2) obtained a significance value of 0.048 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect. Therefore, the dictation method was more effective in improving students’ accuracy in writing simple sentences than in developing sentence structure skills.

Abstract

This research was conducted by Florida Erlinda Mali (Student ID 2201140047) and is titled "The Application of the Discovery Learning Model to Improve Student Learning Outcomes in the IPAS Subject (Topic: Energy Sources Around Us) for Grade III at UPTD SD Inpres Oeba 2 Kupang." The study was supervised by Antonius Suban Hali, S.Si., M.Si., and Rista Aprilya Devi, M.Pd. The research was motivated by low student learning outcomes regarding the topic of animal life cycles—where data from daily tests showed that 57.9% of students had not yet met the Learning Objective Mastery Criteria (KKTP) as well as low student engagement during the learning process. This study aimed to improve student learning outcomes regarding the topic of energy sources around us through the implementation of the discovery learning model. The research method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted over two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 19 students. Data were collected through observation of teacher and student activities and through learning outcome tests. The results indicated a significant improvement in learning outcomes across the cycles. Following the initial implementation of the discovery learning model in Cycle I, the classical mastery rate was 52.63%, with a class average score of 70.52. The study achieved success in Cycle II, with the classical mastery rate rising sharply to 89.47% and the class average score reaching 82.10. This improvement was accompanied by more optimal teacher activity and increased student engagement in data collection and processing, as well as improved ability to collaborate within groups. Based on these results, it can be concluded that implementing the discovery learning model is effective in improving IPAS learning outcomes regarding the topic of energy sources for Grade III B students at UPTD SD Inpres Oeba 2.
