Abstract

The application of the cooperative learning model is the result of reflection on the educational process that has been going on so far. Schools tend to be arenas of competition. Starting from the beginning of their education at school, a child learns in a competitive atmosphere and must fight hard to win the competition to move up a class or pass the exam. According to Anita Lie (2002:24) one of the philosophies underlying the competitive education pattern is Darwin's theory of evolution, which states that the strong will win and survive in life. The principle of survival of the fittest is often reflected in education in schools. Negatively, the competitive learning model will only give birth to a spirit of individualism in students. Based on the background of the problem as above, we compiled this Classroom Action Research with the title "Increasing Learning Motivation with the Cooperative Learning Method through the Jigsaw Method on Christian Faith Material in Class IX of SMP Negeri 8 Ngabang, Landak". The application of the Jigsaw Model cooperative learning method can make Catholic Religion and Character lessons that seem boring more enjoyable.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research was motivated by concerns over the competitive atmosphere that often characterizes conventional education systems. In many schools, students are conditioned to compete with one another from an early stage, reflecting the philosophy of "survival of the fittest" inspired by Darwin’s theory. Such an environment may foster individualism and reduce collaborative values among learners. To address this issue, a cooperative learning approach using the Jigsaw model was implemented in teaching Christian Faith material to Class IX students at SMP Negeri 8 Ngabang, Landak. The main objective was to enhance students' learning motivation and create a more engaging learning experience. The Jigsaw model, as a form of cooperative learning, encourages group collaboration, responsibility, and peer teaching, which helps students to develop a deeper understanding of the material and feel more involved in the learning process. The results of this study showed a noticeable improvement in students’ motivation, participation, and enjoyment during the learning process. The students were more active, attentive, and supportive of one another, creating a positive classroom atmosphere. This study concluded that the application of the Jigsaw model in teaching Christian Faith is effective in transforming a potentially monotonous subject into a dynamic and interactive experience. Therefore, cooperative learning methods, particularly the Jigsaw model, are recommended for broader use in religious education to foster not only academic achievement but also values of togetherness and mutual respect among students.

Abstract

This study examines the Ka’Bawakng dance as a cultural–religious expression of the Dayak Kanayatn community that has undergone a deepening of meaning through inculturation within Catholic liturgy. Originating in the Baliatn ritual, Ka’Bawakng dance initially functioned as a medium of healing and cosmological communication that affirmed the interconnectedness of human beings, nature, and Jubata. In its encounter with the Catholic faith, the dance was incorporated into the Eucharistic celebration as an offertory dance through symbolic reinterpretation grounded in the principles of inculturation articulated by the Second Vatican Council. This research employs a hermeneutical approach using participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary study, analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that Ka’Bawakng dance is not treated as a merely decorative liturgical element, but is understood as a language of prayer engaging the body, cultural memory, and the spirituality of the faithful. This integration deepens liturgical participation, strengthens the religious–cultural identity of the Dayak Kanayatn community, and creates a constructive space for dialogue between ancestral traditions and Christian faith. Nevertheless, sustaining the inculturation of Ka’Bawakng dance requires ongoing pastoral accompaniment to ensure fidelity to Church liturgical norms while respecting local cultural values.
