Abstract

This study examines the education policy at the Fathul Hidayah Pangean Lamongan Islamic Boarding School in dealing with resistance to the integration of traditional and modern education. Using a qualitative approach and thematic analysis of in-depth interview data and participant observation, this study attempts to understand how the Islamic boarding school manages the dynamics of change. The results of the study indicate that although there is resistance from some conservative groups towards elements of modern education, the integrative policy implemented has succeeded in creating a balance between religious and general education. The Islamic boarding school is able to develop a horizontal integration curriculum (religious and general knowledge) with a contextual approach, preparing students to face global challenges without losing their Islamic identity. The main contributions of this study include: (1) the proposal of a curriculum integration model based ontwin track paradigmwhich combinesdeep religious literacy and functional competencies; (2) development of a participatory framework to manage resistance through dialogue between stakeholders; and (3) policy recommendations for Islamic boarding schools to be adaptive and collaborative in the process of modernizing education. Nationally and globally, rejection of educational integration is a strategic issue because it is closely related to cultural identity and readiness to face globalization. The tension between preserving religious values and the demands of modernization is a real challenge for Islamic educational institutions. This research opens up space for further studies, such as testing the effectiveness of the curriculum integration model or developing indicators of success for salaf-modern integration in various social contexts.

Abstract

Bullying in educational environments is a serious issue that causes detrimental effects, such as stress, depression, and even the risk of suicide. Indonesia has the highest prevalence of bullying in ASEAN, with cases reaching 84%. Despite various preventive efforts, bullying practices persist.  Using the thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhui) method, this study analyzes relevant Quranic verses and demonstrates that Islamic education can serve as a comprehensive solution to prevent bullying. The study explores the goals of education from the Quranic perspective as a means to combat bullying, identifying three main aspects: enhancing piety (taqwa), developing knowledge, and fostering noble character. Piety provides the foundation for self-control and harmonious social relations; knowledge builds awareness to respect others and avoid reprehensible behavior; while noble character strengthens values of compassion and respect for others.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth and compare the concept of children's education according to two great figures from two different intellectual traditions, namely Imam Al-Ghazali as a classical Islamic thinker and Jean-Jacques Rousseau as a philosopher from the modern Western world. Al-Ghazali emphasized that children's education should be oriented towards the formation of a whole human being, not only through intellectual development, but also through the spiritual and moral dimensions. According to him, the focus of education lies in the cultivation of faith, the development of noble morals, and self-control through exemplary methods, positive habituation, advice, supervision, and motivation. Rather, Rousseau viewed education as a natural process that leads children to grow according to their nature, by providing space for freedom, hands-on experience, and the development of independence without excessive intervention. This research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method, through the analysis of primary and secondary works of both figures. The results of the study show that although both depart from different civilization contexts and philosophical paradigms, there is a common view in viewing children as individuals who have natural potential that must be appreciated and developed gradually. Furthermore, the study found that Al-Ghazali and Rousseau's thinking could be integrated to form a holistic paradigm of children's education. The integration results in an approach that balances cognitive, affective, spiritual, and moral aspects, making it relevant to be applied in a contemporary education system oriented towards character formation and humanity.
