Abstract

Self-concept and learning interest are important psychological factors that contribute to students' academic success, particularly in science subjects. This study aims to examine the influence of self-concept and learning interest on the science learning achievement of Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. The method used was a survey with correlation analysis and multiple linear regression techniques. The research population consisted of 500 students from three public Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Majalengka Regency, with a sample size of 89 students. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling. The instruments employed were a self-concept questionnaire and a learning interest questionnaire. The results of the study showed that self-concept and learning interest significantly influence students’ science achievement. These findings highlight the crucial role of teachers in shaping positive self-concept and increasing students’ interest in learning to create an effective and enjoyable science learning environment. Academically, this study contributes to strengthening the educational literature that emphasizes the importance of affective factors such as self-concept and learning interest in supporting students’ academic success, and provides a foundation for the development of more comprehensive, character-oriented educational policies and interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) learning model on eighth-grade students' understanding of animal network concepts. A quantitative approach was used, with a single group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 30 students selected through purposive sampling. The measuring instruments used included a learning achievement test and an observation sheet designed to evaluate the implementation of the RTE model. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed a significant increase in students' academic achievement after the implementation of the Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) strategy. The average score increased from 67.25 to 86.40, and the proportion of students who achieved mastery increased from 58% to 94%. Findings from regression and ANOVA analyses showed that the RTE model had a positive and statistically significant effect on student learning outcomes. The RTE strategy proved to be effective in improving conceptual understanding and can serve as an active learning model in Biology teaching. The findings show that RTE encourages greater student participation, reduces misunderstandings, and strengthens conceptual mastery. Practically, Biology teachers are encouraged to adopt RTE as an interactive and collaborative learning approach, especially for subject matter that requires intensive discussion and teamwork.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki pengaruh model pembelajaran Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) terhadap pemahaman siswa kelas VIII terhadap konsep jaringan hewan. Pendekatan kuantitatif digunakan, dengan desain satu kelompok pra-tes dan pasca-tes. Sampel terdiri dari 30 siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik sampling purposif. Alat ukur yang digunakan meliputi tes pencapaian belajar dan lembar observasi yang dirancang untuk mengevaluasi implementasi model RTE. Data dianalisis menggunakan regresi linier sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam prestasi akademik siswa setelah penerapan strategi Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE). Skor rata-rata meningkat dari 67,25 menjadi 86,40, dan proporsi siswa yang mencapai penguasaan meningkat dari 58% menjadi 94%. Temuan dari analisis regresi dan ANOVA menunjukkan bahwa model RTE memiliki pengaruh positif dan secara statistik signifikan terhadap hasil belajar siswa. Strategi RTE terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konseptual dan dapat berfungsi sebagai model pembelajaran aktif dalam pengajaran Biologi. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa RTE mendorong partisipasi siswa yang lebih besar, mengurangi kesalahpahaman, dan memperkuat penguasaan konseptual. Secara praktis, guru Biologi didorong untuk mengadopsi RTE sebagai pendekatan pembelajaran interaktif dan kolaboratif, terutama untuk materi pelajaran yang memerlukan diskusi intensif dan kerja tim.
