Abstract

This study aims to explore the perceptions of young people toward a career as Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers amidst dynamic social and cultural changes. The declining interest in this profession is not solely driven by economic and social status concerns but is also influenced by digitalization, secularization, and a lack of vocational formation from families and churches. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through literature review and in-depth interviews with church youth and theology students. The findings reveal that young people still hold potential interest in this vocation when supported by strong theological narratives, integrated mentoring strategies, and 21st-century skills. This research recommends the revitalization of holistic and contextual Christian education systems to address contemporary challenges and rekindle youth interest in pursuing a career as CRE teachers.

Abstract

Study explores the integration of eco theology into Christian higher education curricula, focusing on the role of faith based environmental education in fostering environmental stewardship. Introduction: As the global ecological crisis intensifies, there is a growing need to incorporate ecological ethics into religious education, preparing future leaders to address environmental challenges. By integrating eco theology with sustainability practices, students are encouraged to view environmental stewardship as a spiritual responsibility grounded in biblical teachings. Literature Review: Previous studies emphasize the success of faith based educational approaches in raising ecological awareness and fostering sustainable practices, particularly in Islamic and Christian communities. Eco theology combines theological principles with environmental ethics, offering a holistic perspective on sustainability. Materials and Method: This study employs a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data from interviews, surveys, and focus groups with students and faculty members at Christian institutions that integrate eco theology into their curriculum. The research examines changes in students' attitudes toward sustainability before and after participation in eco theology courses, focusing on practical applications of creation care. Results and Discussion: The findings indicate that the integration of eco theology significantly enhances students' ecological awareness and commitment to sustainability practices. Students report an increased understanding of the ethical and moral responsibility to care for creation, as well as greater engagement in community based conservation efforts. The results highlight the potential of eco theology as a transformative model in Christian higher education, equipping students with both ethical and practical tools to address the global ecological crisis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers play a crucial role in shaping students' Christian character amid the moral and social challenges they encounter. This study aims to describe and analyze the roles of Christian Religious Education teachers in fostering students' Christian character. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method through library research. Data were collected from books, scholarly journal articles, and other relevant documents and were analyzed using content analysis. The literature synthesis revealed that the development of Christian character is a holistic process supported by the integration of five key roles of Christian Religious Education teachers: serving as role models, teaching Christian values, providing spiritual guidance and mentoring, acting as motivators and character builders, and enforcing discipline grounded in Christian love. The synthesis further indicates that the effectiveness of Christian character formation depends not only on the delivery of instructional content but also on teachers' consistency in integrating exemplary conduct, spiritual nurturing, motivation, and love-based discipline throughout the educational process. This study underscores that Christian Religious Education teachers are key agents in fostering students' Christian character; therefore, strengthening their pedagogical, professional, personal, and spiritual competencies is essential for promoting holistic Christian education.
