Abstract

Abstract One of the main goals in learning English as an academic subject in Indonesia is to equip students with the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. However, many students experience anxiety when asked to speak in English. These psychological barriers significantly inhibit their confidence and willingness to engage in verbal communication. This study explores the various forms and levels of anxiety experienced by students of the class of 2024 of the English Education Study Program at HKBP Nommensen University Medan. Using a qualitative method through a closed questionnaire and supported by class observation, this study identified emotional and behavioral indicators that are signs of language anxiety. The results show that most college students show moderate to high levels of anxiety, which often manifest in the form of fear, embarrassment, and hesitation when speaking in English. These findings confirm the importance of attention to affective factors in the language learning process to improve students' speaking skills and overall academic performance. Abstract

This study analyzes the translation ideology behind the English rendition of the Indonesian song "Hanya Rindu" by Andmesh Kamaleng, performed by Emma Heesters as "Just Missing You". Using Lawrence Venuti's framework of domestication and foreignization. the research investigates how ideological choices influence the emotional and cultural conveyance of song lyrics across languages Employing a qualitative descriptive method, twelve lyrical segments were examined to identify translation strategies and ideological tendencies. The results show a dominant use of domestication (58.3%), where the lyrics are adapted for emotional relatability and fluency in English, using strategies like modulation and adaptation Foreignization (41 7%) appears in instances preserving cultural elements, such as religious references and familial terms. The translator's use of five main strategies literal translation, modulation, adaptation, transposition, and reduction-demonstrates a flexible, nuanced approach to lyric translation. Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini dirancang untuk memaksimalkan potensi anak-anak dan remaja melalui sesi bimbingan belajar serta layanan digital yang berbasis gereja. Generasi muda adalah penerus yang memerlukan pengembangan secara menyeluruh, yang meliputi bidang akademis, spiritual, dan keterampilan hidup. Di zaman digital sekarang, keterampilan kreatif dan penggunaan teknologi menjadi hal penting sebagai persiapan menghadapi tantangan ekonomi di masa depan. Kegiatan PKM dilakukan di area gereja dan ditujukan untuk anak-anak sekolah minggu dan remaja. Pelaksanaan dilakukan dalam tiga fase, yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Program yang dilaksanakan termasuk bimbingan belajar gratis, pembinaan rohani, pelatihan membaca Alkitab, kelas menulis dan desain konten rohani, pelatihan berbicara di depan umum, proyek pelayanan digital gereja, serta kegiatan kebersihan di sekitar gereja. Hasil dari kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan dalam motivasi belajar, rasa percaya diri, serta kreativitas digital di kalangan anak-anak dan remaja. Mereka menjadi lebih aktif dalam proses belajar, berani tampil di hadapan orang banyak, dan belajar memanfaatkan teknologi dengan cara yang positif. Program ini menunjukkan bahwa gereja dapat memainkan peran penting sebagai pusat pengembangan bagi generasi muda, tidak hanya dari sisi spiritual, tetapi juga dalam mengembangkan potensi ekonomi melalui keterampilan kreatif dan digital.
