Abstract

Lime peel (Citrus aurantifolia) is a horticultural waste whose utilization has not been optimal and contributes 50-65% of the residue of the total weight so that if lime peel is not utilized it can cause environmental pollution. Lime peel contains saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and essential oils that have inhibitory properties so that they can be utilized as a form of liquid soap preparation from lime peel extract. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the inhibitory power of liquid soap preparations from lime peel extract (Citrus aurantifolia) containing essential oils as active substances against Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. This study used an experimental research method with a disc diffusion technique method that determined the inhibition zone. Liquid soap with lime peel essential oil 6% had effective inhibitory power against Staphylococcus epidermidis with an average diameter of the inhibition zone of 10.21 mm which is included in the strong category. The positive control and basic control resulted in an inhibition zone formed of 14.42 mm and 7,33 mm respectively. The effectiveness of strong inhibition was because essential oils contain phenol compounds that had hydrophobic properties by splitting the fat layer on the mitochondrial cell membrane and bacteria which causes cells to become damaged and results in extensive leakage in bacterial cells so that bacteria die. Data analysis using bivariate analysis with One Way Anova test showed that essential oils did not have a significant effect on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria compared to basic control.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem in Indonesia, impacting the growth and development of infants. Low appetite and inadequate food intake are major contributing factors to stunting. One non-pharmacological intervention with the potential to improve appetite and digestive function is infant massage, which is considered safe, easy to implement, and sustainable in the community. Purpose: To analyze the effect of infant massage on eating patterns and weight gain in stunted toddlers. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design, dividing respondents into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received structured infant massage six times over two weeks, followed by one-month follow-up. Data collection included an appetite assessment questionnaire and anthropometric measurements to assess changes in toddler weight. Results: The study results showed that stunted toddlers who received regular infant massage for two weeks experienced significant increases in appetite and weight gain after a one-month follow-up period compared to the control group. Infant massage has been shown to be effective in stimulating appetite and supporting weight gain in stunted toddlers. Conclusion: Infant massage can be used as an effective complementary intervention in stunting management programs, particularly in improving dietary patterns and increasing the nutritional status of stunted toddlers.

Abstract

Liquid soap is currently the most popular soap product, due to its attractive and practical form. Soap is often enriched with several additives, such as surfactants, to improve its quality. The most common surfactant is SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate), as it can reduce skin irritation and has excellent foaming properties. Adding too much SLS can cause irritation and dry skin. Hand soap can be formulated with natural active ingredients, such as lime peel essential oil, which contains antibacterial properties. This study was conducted by creating soap preparations in FI, FII, and FIII. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of varying SLS concentrations on the physical quality of hand soap preparations, including organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, viscosity tests, and foam height tests. The results of the study showed that the hand soap was thick, had a distinctive fresh lime odour, and was yellow in colour. The hand soap preparations for each formula were homogeneous. The pH of the three preparations ranged from 6.01 to 6.15. The viscosity of the three preparations ranged from 805 to 846.33 cPs. The foam height of the three formulas ranged from 48 to 55 mm. Data analysis in this study used a one-way ANOVA test. The conclusion of this study is that variations in SLS concentration affect the organoleptic test results, pH, viscosity, and foam height, but do not affect the homogeneity test results.
