Abstract

This research was motivated by the low mathematical understanding abilities of elementary school students. The formulation of the problem in this research is: 1) Is there a positive correlation between learning interest scores and the acquisition of mathematical understanding abilities? 2) Does students' interest in learning have a positive effect on the acquisition of mathematical understanding abilities? The aim of this research is to determine the influence of interest in learning on students' mathematical understanding abilities. The research method used in this research is a quantitative method. The research instruments used were a learning interest questionnaire and a mathematical understanding ability test. Based on the results of data analysis and hypothesis testing using SPSS version 29.0 software, there is a significant positive correlation between learning interest scores and mathematical understanding ability scores, with a correlation coefficient value of 0.498, which means that it is 0.248 or 24.8% of students' mathematical understanding ability. determined by interest in learning. So it can be concluded that interest in learning has a positive effect on the mathematical understanding ability of elementary school students.

Abstract

Learning is the process of children getting to know knowledge that aims to increase knowledge as a basis for forming behavior. The learning process is carried out so that children experience behavioral changes and gain an overall improvement in knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Learning is very closely related to daily life, therefore it is important for children to learn continuously, one of which is through learning mathematics. Mathematics learning has a very important role in the sustainability of children's education because mathematics is one of the fundamental non-physical tools in the world of education and daily life. Through mathematics learning, children are trained to think logically, systematically, critically, and creatively in solving various problems. In addition, mathematics helps children solve calculation problems that are often encountered in daily activities, such as counting money, measuring length, time, and distance, and interpreting simple data. Mathematics learning also plays a role in developing the ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Therefore, mathematics learning is a subject that must be followed because it has a great influence on thinking skills, learning independence, and children's readiness to face life challenges and scientific development in the future.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to improve fourth-grade students’ conceptual understanding in science through the implementation of the Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model assisted by Canva media at SD Negeri 9 Sijuk. The study was conducted to address students’ low engagement and difficulties in understanding abstract science concepts such as force and energy. Canva was utilized by the teacher as a visual tool to create interactive infographics that clarify abstract scientific ideas. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participants were 20 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through learning achievement tests, observation sheets, and field notes, analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively using descriptive and inferential statistics (normality, homogeneity, t-test, N-Gain, and Cohen’s d). The findings reveal that the Jigsaw model assisted by Canva significantly improved students’ conceptual understanding. The experimental class mean increased from 69.14 to 87.05 (N-Gain = 0.58, moderate), while the control class improved from 67.87 to 83.70 (N-Gain = 0.49, moderate). The t-test result (p = 0.143) indicated no significant statistical difference, yet Cohen’s d = 0.52 demonstrated a medium practical effect. Thus, the Jigsaw model supported by Canva effectively enhanced students’ learning outcomes and engagement. Keywords: Cooperative Learning, Jigsaw, Canva, Conceptual Understanding, Science Education ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial (IPAS) melalui penerapan model Cooperative Learning tipe Jigsaw berbantuan media Canva pada murid kelas IV SD Negeri 9 Sijuk. Permasalahan utama dalam pembelajaran IPAS adalah rendahnya keterlibatan murid serta kesulitan mereka dalam memahami konsep-konsep abstrak seperti gaya dan energi. Canva digunakan sebagai media visual pendukung untuk memperjelas konsep yang sulit dipahami melalui gambar, diagram, dan info grafis interaktif. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, masing-masing terdiri atas tahap perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 20 murid kelas IV. Data diperoleh melalui tes hasil belajar, lembar observasi aktivitas murid, dan catatan lapangan. Analisis data menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif, dengan uji normalitas, homogenitas, t-test, N-Gain, dan Cohen’s d. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model Jigsaw berbantuan Canva efektif meningkatkan pemahaman konsep IPAS murid. Nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen meningkat dari 69,14 menjadi 87,05 dengan N-Gain 0,58 (kategori sedang), sedangkan kelas kontrol meningkat dari 67,87 menjadi 83,70 dengan N-Gain 0,49 (kategori sedang). Hasil uji t menunjukkan nilai p = 0,143 (> 0,05) dan Cohen’s d = 0,52 (efek sedang), yang berarti perbedaan tidak signifikan secara statistik tetapi berdampak praktis nyata terhadap peningkatan hasil belajar dan aktivitas murid.
