Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower the elderly in Segaran Village, Wates District, KediriRegency, through the innovation of making ready-to-consume medicinal jelly as a practical effort to prevent hypertension. Hypertension is a common chronic health problem in the elderly population and can increase the risk of morbidity and mortality. Prevention interventions that are easy to implement and well-received by older people are urgently needed. The implementation method of this activity includes socialisation about hypertension and the importance of prevention, training in making medicinal jelly using natural ingredients with antihypertensive potential, and assistance with packaging and storing products. This activity involves the active participation of older people at every stage. The expected results of this activity are increased knowledge of the elderly about preventing hypertension, skills in making medicinal jelly independently, and the availability of practical natural supplement alternatives that have the potential to support blood pressure control. The medicinal jelly product produced is expected to be a sustainable preventive solution that contributes to improving the quality of life for older people in Segaran Village. Evaluation of the activity will be carried out through observation, interviews, and measuring the level of participant satisfaction.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to abnormal insulin secretion and function. One of the complications of diabetes mellitus is peripheral neuropathy, which can lead to diabetic ulcers. Diabetic ulcers can be caused by bacterial infections, specifically from Pseudomonas sp. Antibiotic therapy for diabetic ulcers, particularly those resulting from Pseudomonas sp. infections, has frequently encountered resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to test the sensitivity of Pseudomonas sp. bacteria to the antibiotics used for treatment. This study aims to determine the sensitivity of Pseudomonas sp. from the ulcers of DM patients to the antibiotics erythromycin and ciprofloxacin. Pseudomonas bacteria were isolated from ulcer specimens using cetrimide media, followed by a sensitivity test using the diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar medium at 37°C for 24 hours. The research data were analyzed using the comparative Mann-Whitney statistical test. The results showed that Pseudomonas sp. was sensitive to erythromycin by 21% and to ciprofloxacin by 29%, while resistance was 79% for erythromycin and 71% for ciprofloxacin. The statistical results indicated no significant difference between the antibiotics erythromycin and ciprofloxacin (Asymp. Sig. value 0.668). The findings of this study can provide information on the phenomenon of Pseudomonas sp. resistance to erythromycin and ciprofloxacin, offering a basis for evaluating future treatment therapies with further testing. Abstract

Oral health is an important indicator of general health, yet the prevalence of dental caries among Indonesian children remains very high. This Community Service Program (CSP) aims to increase students’ awareness and knowledge at SDN Duwet 3 Kediri. Through outreach and education, this intervention is expected to instill healthy dental habits from an early age, thereby preventing future problems. The methods used included interactive lectures, toothbrushing demonstrations, and pre- and post-test-based evaluations. A total of 29 second- and third-grade students participated in this activity. Educational materials included an introduction to oral anatomy, types and functions of teeth, causes of caries, correct toothbrushing techniques, and nutrition for healthy teeth. Pre-test results showed a low level of students’ initial knowledge, with an average score of 48.96. After the intervention, the post-test score increased to 58.96. A paired statistical test showed this increase was significant (p=0.019), proving the effectiveness of the educational program. Furthermore, students showed strong enthusiasm for practicing and were committed to implementing healthy habits daily. These findings conclude that practice-based health education is effective in instilling healthy behaviors in elementary school children. Continuation of similar programs is highly recommended to strengthen the habit of maintaining dental and oral health from an early age.
