Abstract

Pain in breast cancer is one of the most common and significant problems experienced by patients. If not properly managed, the impact of breast cancer pain can lead to increased morbidity and a diminished quality of life. This study aims to determine the effect of Benson relaxation on pain levels in breast cancer patients. A quantitative research method was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 17 patients selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The average pain score of respondents during the first measurement (pre-test) was 6.12, and during the second measurement (post-test) it decreased to 3.12. The difference in average pain levels between the first and second measurements showed a reduction of 3.00 points. The statistical test results revealed an Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of Benson relaxation on reducing pain in breast cancer patients. Benson relaxation can significantly help lower pain levels after therapy. This relaxation technique plays an important role by inhibiting sympathetic nerve activity, which in turn reduces oxygen consumption by the body and relaxes the muscles, leading to a sense of calm and comfort.

Abstract

Background: Health services provided to patients should be integrated so as to ensure patient safety. The paradigm of health services is currently undergoing a change where it no longer prioritizes one profession as the core of service but instead requires the integration of various professions in providing health services. Patient-centered care (PCC) is a patient-focused service that can be carried out through interprofessional communication. The purpose of this service activity is to increase knowledge and optimize the competence of health workers to increase PCC through the implementation of interprofessional communication. Methods: The dedication method used in this activity is through a webinar using the Zoom meeting application. One of the private hospitals in Bali is a partner in this activity. This service activity consists of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Results: The results of the activity show that health workers are able to carry out interprofessional communication and improve PCC as an integrated health service. Conclusion: Health workers are able to carry out interprofessional communication in improving PCC as an integrated health service. The community service process went according to plan and all health workers involved played an active role during the activities. It is hoped that health workers will always be able to apply interprofessional communication to improve PCC.

Abstract

Family caregivers are particularly vulnerable to psychological distress due to the cumulative burden of caregiving responsibilities and the challenges of balancing their own personal needs. Mindfulness-based approaches have been widely recognized as promising strategies for alleviating psychological distress. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a Brief Mindfulness Intervention (BMI) in reducing psychological distress among family caregivers of breast cancer patients. A quasi-experimental design was employed, and purposive sampling was used to recruit 30 family caregivers (15 in the intervention group and 15 in the control group). The intervention consisted of a single 90-minute session, and psychological distress was assessed using the DASS-21. The findings indicated significant reductions in depressive symptoms, anxiety, and stress following the BMI (depression: p = 0.002; anxiety: p = 0.000; stress: p = 0.000). Cohen’s d effect size demonstrated that BMI produced substantial effects, particularly on anxiety and stress (depression: d = 0.43338; anxiety: d = 1.6170; stress: d = 1.1240). These results suggest that BMI may serve as a feasible and preliminary coping strategy for mitigating psychological distress among family caregivers facing emotionally demanding caregiving situations.

Abstract

Blood pressure control behavior is an effort made by people with hypertension to maintain blood pressure stability and prevent complications. The success of these behaviors is greatly influenced by family support, which plays a role in providing motivation and practical assistance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle consistently. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and blood pressure control behavior in people with hypertension. The study used a correlational descriptive design with a cross sectional approach. The study population amounted to 1,435 hypertensive patients, with a sample of 94 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection used family support questionnaires and blood pressure control behavior questionnaires. Data analysis using the Spearman's Rho test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good family support, namely 54 people (57.4%) and good blood pressure control behavior as many as 50 people (53.2%). The results showed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.627, which means that there is a strong and significant relationship between family support and blood pressure control behavior. Family support has an important contribution in helping people with hypertension carry out optimal blood pressure control behaviors, because family involvement is an essential factor that increases the motivation, discipline, and ability of people with hypertension to maintain healthy living behaviors consistently.
