Abstract

Reading interest is an intrinsic motivation that encourages students to actively engage in reading activities with a sense of enjoyment and autonomy. This study was motivated by the low reading interest among fourth-grade elementary students, often caused by reading materials dominated by plain text without visual support. Visual literacy offers an innovative approach by utilizing media such as picture books, educational comics, infographics, and videos to attract attention and enhance students’ comprehension. This research aims to analyze the implementation strategy of visual literacy to improve reading interest among fourth-grade students. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model conducted in two cycles. The findings indicate that visual media fosters interactive and meaningful learning experiences, leading to a significant increase in students’ reading interest. These results are expected to contribute to strengthening a culture of literacy in elementary schools

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of school management in developing local culture-based education. Local culture-based education is a learning approach that integrates local cultural values as a contextual, relevant, and meaningful learning resource for students. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method in an elementary school that has successfully implemented local culture comprehensively in various aspects of learning activities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The results show that school management plays a strategic role in formulating policies, supporting culture-based learning programs, and establishing partnerships with the community for cultural preservation. The principal, teachers, and education staff actively integrate local cultural elements into the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the learning environment. Despite facing challenges such as limited resources and lack of training for educators, this school is able to demonstrate a strong and consistent commitment to making local culture the foundation for character and identity formation for students. This study confirms that collaboration between stakeholders is key to success in realizing education rooted in local wisdom. By involving parents and the community, schools can create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment. These findings demonstrate that community involvement in the educational process not only enriches students' learning experiences but also strengthens their sense of belonging to local culture. This research significantly contributes to the development of educational models that focus not only on academic aspects but also on the development of student character and identity rooted in local cultural values. Through this approach, it is hoped that students will grow into individuals who are not only academically intelligent but also have an awareness and appreciation for their own culture.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kreativitas siswa kelas IV SDN 1 Menganti pada mata pelajaran Seni Budaya dan Prakarya (SBdP), khususnya pada materi membatik. Kondisi tersebut disebabkan oleh metode pembelajaran konvensional dan keterbatasan sarana prasarana sekolah, di mana kegiatan siswa masih terbatas pada mewarnai gambar batik hasil cetakan (print-out). Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji efektivitas penggunaan media batik ecoprint dalam meningkatkan kreativitas siswa sekolah dasar pada mata pelajaran SBdP. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen One-Group Pre-test-Post-test Design terhadap 34 siswa yang ditentukan melalui teknik total sampling. Proses implementasi dilakukan secara sistematis melalui enam tahapan PjBL, yaitu: pemberian pertanyaan mendasar, mendesain perencanaan proyek secara mandiri, menyusun jadwal, memantau kemajuan proyek melalui teknik pukul (pounding), menguji hasil karya (sapu tangan, totebag,dan taplak meja), serta mengevaluasi pengalaman belajar. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan instrumen tes kinerja produk yang dinilai berdasarkan empat aspek kreativitas: Fluency (kelancaran), Flexibility (keluwasan), Originality (keaslian), dan Elaboration (terperinci). Analisis data menggunakan uji paired sample t-test serta penghitungan N-Gain melalui perangkat lunak Jamovi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media batik ecoprint melalui model PjBL secara signifikan meningkatkan kreativitas siswa, terbukti dari kenaikan nilai rata-rata dari 52,8 (pre-test) menjadi 84,2 (post-test). Uji statistik menunjukkan nilai p < 0,001 dengan effect size sebesar 2,04 kategori Sangat Besar serta N-Gain sebesar 0,641(6,41%) kategori Sedang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi media batik ecoprint sangat efektif dalam meningkatkan kreativitas siswa karena memberikan pengalaman belajar langsung yang eksploratif. Penggunaan bahan alam dalam media ini tidak hanya memicu orisinalitas karya, tetapi juga menjadi solusi inovatif untuk mengatasi keterbatasan sarana prasarana di sekolah.
