Abstract

One of the 21st century skills is the ability to think critically. Critical thinking skills are essential for learning mathematics in elementary school. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of meningful learning in the learning of Number Heads Together (NHT) assisted by geoboard media on the mathematical critical thinking ability of elementary school students. This study applies a quantitative research method with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. This design involved a sati experimental group, where there was no control group. There is a pretest before treatment and a posttest after treatment, so that the researcher can see the effect of treatment more accurately because it allows for a comparison of conditions before and after treatment. The geoboard-assisted NHT learning applied in this study is effective in improving the critical thinking skills of students in elementary schools. This increase is statistically proven through the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test which is appropriate to be used when the data is not normally distributed, namely the value of Z = -2.889 with a significance level of 0.004 which is < 0.005 which shows a difference between conventional learning carried out by teachers and learning using the NHT model assisted by geoboards. The implementation of NHT assisted by geoboards encourages active discussion, conceptual understanding, and thorough student engagement, so it is highly recommended for mathematics learning in elementary schools in building students' critical thinking skills

Abstract

Limited public awareness of the importance of children’s education has contributed to persistently high school dropout rates. This community engagement program aimed to enhance public understanding and awareness of children’s education. The program employed a participatory approach through structured socialization and educational activities involving parents of school dropouts, education stakeholders, school principals and teachers, and village government officials. The results demonstrate a substantial improvement in participants’ understanding of the delivered materials, with comprehension levels increasing from 48.9% prior to the program to 84.2% after its implementation, representing an increase of 35%. The most pronounced improvement was observed in collaborative dropout prevention strategies. These findings indicate that the program effectively strengthened public awareness of the importance of synergy and collaboration among families, schools, communities, and government institutions in supporting the sustainability of children’s education. ABSTRAK Rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya pendidikan anak berdampak pada tingginya angka anak putus sekolah. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kepedulian masyarakat tentang pendidikan anak. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui pendekatan partisipatif dengan strategi sosialisasi dan edukasi kepada orang tua anak putus sekolah, masyarakat pemerhati pendidikan, kepala sekolah dan guru, dan pemerintah desa, sebagai peserta. Hasil pengabdian diperoleh bahwa terdapat peningkatan signifikan pemahaman masyarakat atas materi yang diberikan yakni tingkat pemahaman peserta sebelum kegiatan sebesar 48,9% dan setelah kegiatan menjadi 84,2% atau meningkat sebesar 35%. Peningkatan tertinggi terjadi pada aspek strategi pencegahan kolaboratif. Menunjukan bahwa kegiatan ini dapat menumbuhkan pemahaman dan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya sinergi dan kolaborasi antara keluarga, sekolah, masyarakat, dan pemerintah dalam keberlanjutan pendidikan anak
