Abstract

The Lebaran celebration tradition has a significant impact on the mental and social well-being of the community in Dungun Laut Village, Jawai District, Sambas Regency. This study aims to analyze how social practices, family values, and community interactions during the Lebaran festivities contribute to both individual and collective well-being. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations involving four informants representing different social backgrounds and age groups, including a community leader, a housewife, an adolescent, and a school-aged child. The findings reveal that Lebaran serves as a social space that strengthens family bonds, social solidarity, and positive emotional regulation, leading to increased happiness, gratitude, and social connectedness among community members. Moreover, emotional and social support from families and the surrounding community play a crucial role in maintaining psychological resilience after the fasting month. These findings reinforce Durkheim’s (1897) social integration theory and Masten’s (2014) concept of resilience, emphasizing the importance of social attachment in fostering mental well-being. The study recommends promoting local value-based character education and community engagement programs as sustainable strategies to enhance rural social welfare.
