Abstract

The research theme is Integration of Natural Science (Natural Science) philosophy in assessment and summative through a holistic approach which not only views education as an aspect of knowledge but also views education in terms of skills, attitudes and values. A holistic approach prioritizes a balance between cognitive knowledge, practical skills and understanding of scientific values by emphasizing the importance of developing a scientific attitude, critical thinking and also the ability to collaborate and adapt to an ever-changing world. This research uses qualitative methods with interviews, observations and document analysis to collect data from science teachers in several elementary schools. The research results state that the integration of science philosophy in formative and summative assessments can enrich the evaluation process by assessing students' scientific thinking abilities, practical skills and scientific attitudes. Based on research findings, it is recommended to increase training for teachers and develop a curriculum that better supports holistic assessment

Abstract

Environmental awareness from a young age is crucial for creating a generation that cares about cleanliness and environmental sustainability. From an Islamic perspective, maintaining cleanliness is part of faith and is a human responsibility to care for the earth as a trust from Allah SWT. However, science learning in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) tends to focus solely on theory and places less emphasis on direct experience. This study aims to describe the application of contextual learning based on plastic waste to instill Islamic environmental hygiene values in science learning activities. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative through observation, interviews, and document collection at MIS Bidayatul Hidayah, with the subjects studied being teachers and fourth-grade students. The results indicate that the use of plastic waste as a learning tool can increase ecological awareness, critical thinking skills, and religious responsibility of students in maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment. This study recommends that contextual learning with an Islamic nuance be adopted as an effective strategy to improve scientific literacy, character, and environmental awareness among MI students.

Abstract

The assessment of science skills in science education at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) level is very crucial. Through this assessment, teachers can assess the extent to which students are able to apply science process skills related to renewable energy. Science process skills are fundamental competencies that must be improved from the basic education stage, because they play a role in improving critical thinking skills, problem solving, and a deep understanding of science. However, the assessment of science process skills in MI still faces many obstacles, such as a lack of valid and trusted measuring instruments, and a lack of linkages to contextual issues such as renewable energy. Renewable energy is an important international issue in addressing the energy crisis and climate change, so its understanding must be taught from the beginning. This study aims to evaluate various existing assessment instruments to measure the science process skills of MI students when discussing renewable energy topics, using a literature review. The results of the study showed that the most widely applied assessment instruments included performance tests, assessment rubrics, observation sheets, portfolios, and project-based evaluations. The instrument not only focuses on the cognitive aspect, but also covers the psychomotor and affective dimensions of students, also showing that there are still shortcomings in the assessment instruments that specifically measure the science skills of MI students regarding the theme of renewable energy. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a more comprehensive, inquiry-based, and appropriate assessment tool in accordance with the characteristics of MI students. This research emphasizes the importance of creating contextual, authentic, and skill-oriented assessment instruments for science process skills to improve the quality of science learning in MI.
