Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the social movement “duit ora payu” (money doesn’t work) as a grassroots rejection of vote buying in the Village Head Election (Pilkades) of Narukan Village, Rembang Regency. This phenomenon is significant because it presents an electoral anomaly in which local communities collectively resisted money politics, contributing to contemporary studies on village democracy and electoral integrity. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research draws on literature studies and digital data to examine the dynamics surrounding the election. The findings show that the high level of social capital possessed by the elected candidate, Gus Faruq, built through strong social networks, public trust in integrity, and sincere civic engagement, became the decisive factor in defeating opponents suspected of distributing money in a structured manner. His close relationship with prominent religious figures, especially Gus Baha, further strengthened moral credibility and reinforced anti-money politics norms in the community. The study concludes that value-based social capital can effectively counteract corrupt electoral practices and offers a replicable model for promoting clean grassroots elections.

Abstract

The batik industry is a vital component of Indonesia’s cultural economy that plays an important role in the social and economic life of Indonesian Society. As both a cultural heritage and a source of livelihood, the Jambi batik industry faces modernization and market competition that drive significant socio-cultural transformation. This study analyzes shifts in work structures, family roles, and social networks within the Jambi batik industry, reflecting the evolving dynamics of the artisan community. Using qualitative methods with a descriptive-analytical approach, the research identifies a transition from a traditional kinship-based system to a more open, market-oriented structure. These changes appear in work relationships, family participation in production, and stronger networks among artisans, government institutions, and local communities. The study concludes that the sustainability of the Jambi batik industry depends on both economic adaptability and the community’s capacity to respond to social change while preserving cultural identity.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystem degradation due to land conversion and climate change threatens coastal resilience and community livelihoods in Kuala Simbur Village, Jambi. This community service program aims to enhance ecological awareness and strengthen institutional collaboration in mangrove conservation. Utilizing a participatory approach, the program engaged the village government, Village Consultative Body (BPD), and local community groups through environmental regulation education, participatory problem identification, and conservation action planning. Results indicated a significant increase in public understanding of environmental risks and the ecological functions of mangroves. The program's tangible impacts include the formation of community-based mangrove conservation groups and the strengthening of village regulatory frameworks for sustainable coastal management. Community participation increased in direct actions such as conservation area monitoring and land rehabilitation. This initiative demonstrates that the synergy between community awareness and village institutional support is a decisive factor in the successful preservation of blue carbon ecosystems in coastal regions.
