Abstract

Babah Alun Mushola at Taman Suropati Menteng Jakarta is one of the 7 Islamic prayer places which initiated by Jusuf Hamka. Babah Alun Mushola placed on the upper floor police station building at Taman Suropati Menteng Jakarta . According to Jusuf Hamka, the architecture of this Building was designed with application of Betawi, Chinese and Dutch Colonial cultural architectural elements. This research aims to determine the application of those signs through Pierce’s semiotic theory to identify the architectural elements of the Babah Alun Taman Suropati mushola. This research was carried out using a descriptive qualitative approach, by observing the details of the cultural architectural elements at the Babah Alun Taman Suropati mushola. The research exploring the form, function and symbolic meaning of the application of the cultural architecture elements. It is hoped that the research results can become a reference in designing building designs that apply cultural architectural elements

Abstract

Abstract

In the architectural planning and design process, the use of virtual digital technology is a necessity in the world of architecture today. The digital virtual technology used in the architectural planning and design process in this scientific paper is virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence. This technology is a further development after the era of digital architectural drawings on computers with special programs such as AutoCAD, ArchiCAD and the like. The process of planning and designing two-dimensional designs using a drawing table machine and paper media in the past, can now be directly created and viewed in three dimensions on a computer screen or via virtual digital technology tools. This study aims to study the potential and influence of digital virtual technology using qualitative-descriptive research methods through literature study. With this study, it is hoped that it can become a reference in distinguishing between the three digital virtual technologies, selected and used according to user needs in the architecture planning and design process.

Abstract

In architecture, a concept serves as the fundamental idea that guides the entire design process—integrating function, form, symbolism, and cultural context. This study examines how such a concept is manifested as a form of architectural acculturation in the Babah Alun Desari Mosque, Cilandak, a contemporary Indonesian mosque that harmoniously blends Islamic spatial values with Chinese aesthetic traditions. The research aims to identify and analyze how the architectural concept of acculturation is implemented through the mosque’s visual composition, ornamentation, and spatial arrangement. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through literature review and case study methods, involving visual observation, documentation, and theoretical analysis related to architectural concepts and cultural synthesis. The findings of this study reveal that the curved roof crowned with a dome, the presence of dragon and floral ornaments, and the open, inclusive spatial configuration represent tangible manifestations of architectural acculturation. From a distance, Chinese architectural identity appears more dominant, while Islamic character becomes more evident upon approaching the prayer hall. Thus, the Babah Alun Desari Mosque stands as a manifestation of architectural acculturation, harmonizing Eastern aesthetics with Islamic spirituality within Indonesia’s multicultural urban context.
