Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Tari Baluse as a cultural heritage in empowering the local economy through the development of tourism based on local wisdom in Hilimondregeraya Tourism Village, South Nias. Tari Baluse is a traditional war dance rich in historical value, symbolizing courage and the cultural identity of the Nias people. In the context of tourism, performances of Tari Baluse serve as a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists. This research employs a qualitative and quantitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and surveys with artists, local residents, and small business actors. The findings indicate that Tari Baluse significantly contributes to increasing community income, particularly through the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) such as handicrafts, local culinary businesses, and tour guide services. The active participation of the community—especially women and youth—in culture-based creative economic activities also demonstrates a positive social impact. However, challenges remain, particularly in terms of limited infrastructure and promotional efforts. The study recommends strengthening local tourism governance, enhancing community capacity through training, and optimizing digital promotion as strategic steps toward sustainable economic development and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Environmental sanitation is a fundamental aspect of rural community health development. This activity aims to analyze environmental sanitation conditions in Hiliana'a Gomo Village and implement improvement efforts through integrated community service programs. The methods used include direct observation of village environmental sanitation conditions, construction of supporting infrastructure in the form of trash bins and village gates, agricultural land observation to identify development potential, and implementation of basic learning programs and community cooperation activities. Observation results show that the environmental sanitation conditions in Hiliana'a Gomo Village still require improvement, especially in waste management and sanitation infrastructure. Through the construction of trash bins, the community obtained adequate facilities to manage household waste. The construction of village gates provides identity and pride for the local community. Agricultural land observation identified the potential for sustainable agricultural development that can improve community welfare. Basic learning programs provide knowledge to the community about the importance of environmental sanitation and healthy living practices. Community cooperation activities strengthen social cohesion and community participation in village development. The conclusion of this activity is the importance of a holistic approach in improving village environmental sanitation that involves active community participation, supporting infrastructure development, and strengthening community capacity through education and learning.
