Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Kajian Kalam at Gedung Dakwah Kalasan, Sleman, as a community-based Qur’anic literacy practice. The study is motivated by the phenomenon that, although many people in Indonesia are proficient in reading the Qur’an, their understanding of its meaning remains limited. Kajian Kalam addresses this gap through a contextual and participatory tafsir approach, actively involving participants in discussion and reflection. This research employs a qualitative case study method, using direct observation, interviews with the study leader, and documentation of the study activities as data sources. The findings indicate that Kajian Kalam enhances Qur’anic literacy on three levels: textual literacy, meaning literacy, and practical literacy. The study provides participants with opportunities to understand Qur’anic verses contextually and relate them to daily life, while also building an inclusive and egalitarian learning community. The contributions of Kajian Kalam include broadening access to Qur’anic interpretation for participants with diverse backgrounds, implementing participatory learning models, and developing grounded and practical Qur’anic literacy. This research demonstrates that community-based Qur’anic studies can be an effective means to improve understanding and practice of the Qur’an, filling a gap in previous studies that focused primarily on formal institutions. The findings are expected to inform the development of more participatory and practical Qur’anic study models in society.

Abstract

The objectives of Islamic education are critical and require comprehensive study to ensure an effective learning process. Without a clear and detailed discussion of these objectives, various problems can arise, leading to deviations in the education system. An education system that does not have clear objectives tends to lose direction and fail to achieve the expected results, thus harming students and society. Ahmad Tafsir is one of the leading education figures in Indonesia. His ideas on education are widely contained in his works, which are important references in the development of Islamic education in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach based on library research. The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze Ahmad Tafsir's thoughts on the objectives of Islamic education to form perfect humans. The results of this study indicate that Islamic education aims to develop good and noble human resources. Ahmad Tafsir said, that to create perfect humans according to the objectives of Islamic education, it is necessary to pay attention to three criteria for perfect humans, namely healthy and strong bodies, intelligent and clever thoughts, and high-quality spirituality.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the synergy between the teaching of Islamic creed and ethics (akidah akhlak) and the madrasa environment in shaping students’ honesty at MTsN 5 Bantul. The background of this research lies in the importance of honesty as a fundamental value in Islamic education, which is not only transmitted through classroom instruction but also cultivated through the school’s culture. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with Islamic creed and ethics teachers, the principal, and eighth-grade students, as well as documentation of school programs. The findings reveal that the teaching of akidah akhlak serves as a normative foundation in instilling honesty values through lessons on shidiq, prophetic stories, real-life case discussions, and student reflections. The madrasa environment functions as a medium for habituating honesty through a religious culture, discipline, teacher role models, and everyday social interactions. In addition, character development programs such as Qur’anic recitation, morning prayers, and the Smile, Greeting, and Salutation (3S) movement further reinforce the internalization of honesty in a sustainable manner. The synergy between classroom learning, the school environment, and structured programs proves to be the key to successfully cultivating honesty, as students gain not only cognitive understanding but also affective experiences and practical application in daily school life. This study concludes that honesty-based character education must be carried out holistically by integrating akidah akhlak instruction with the madrasa culture. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for other madrasas in developing effective strategies for character education. Future research is recommended to conduct comparative studies across different madrasas or to explore other moral values such as trustworthiness, responsibility, and justice to provide a more comprehensive understanding of character education in Islamic contexts.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology and globalization in the era of disruption has brought both opportunities and challenges to education, particularly in shaping the moral and spiritual character of the younger generation. Many children and adolescents are vulnerable to negative influences such as materialism, hedonism, and declining social interaction, which highlight the urgent need for educational approaches rooted in strong moral and religious foundations. This study aims to explore the educational values of children in the Qur'an as a solution to forming a generation with noble character in the era of disruption. The research method used is qualitative with a library research approach. The main data sources are relevant verses of the Qur'an, such as QS. Luqman: 13, QS. Al-Isra: 23-24, QS. Adz-Dzariyat: 56, QS. Al-Hujurat: 13, and QS. Al-Alaq: 1-5, as well as interpretations and related literature. The data are analyzed thematically to identify the educational values of faith, morals, worship, social, and intellectual, which are then contextualized with the challenges of the era of disruption. The results of the study show that Qur'anic values, such as monotheism, noble character, and worship, are relevant in forming the character of children who are strong, intellectually intelligent, and spiritually resilient amidst the currents of globalization and technological developments. Strategies for implementing these values include the role of the family, integration into formal education, and strengthening communities based on Qur'anic values. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of Islamic education that can face the challenges of the modern era while maintaining the integrity of religious values.
