Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) in Cinta Rakyat Village plays a strategic role in improving literacy and numeracy skills among elementary school students in remote areas that face limitations in teaching staff, learning media, and family support. The program is carried out over four weeks with three meetings per week, where university students apply participatory and contextual learning approaches to create an active, enjoyable, and easy-to-understand learning atmosphere. By using creative media such as picture books, educational games, number cards, and simple visual aids, the learning activities are designed to strengthen basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills according to students’ cognitive development levels. Evaluation results show significant improvements in reading fluency, text comprehension, and basic numerical operations, along with increased motivation and self-confidence. In addition to benefiting students, the program also engages teachers and parents in supporting learning activities, creating positive collaboration between schools, students, and the community. Overall, the KKN program in Cinta Rakyat Village serves as a good practice model for addressing educational disparities, promoting equal access to quality basic education, and raising collective awareness of the importance of education in advancing remote areas of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of social media in enhancing public engagement and trust toward the National Zakat Board (BAZNAS) of North Sumatra, particularly within the context of Islamic public relations. In today's digital era, social media serves as a strategic medium for delivering information rapidly, transparently, and broadly to the public. As a zakat management institution, BAZNAS bears the responsibility of building public trust through effective communication grounded in Islamic values. Through platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and its official website, BAZNAS North Sumatra utilizes informative, interactive, and persuasive content to encourage public participation and strengthen institutional credibility. This research adopts a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in depth interviews, participatory observation, and content analysis of BAZNAS North Sumatra’s social media channels. The findings indicate that the digital communication strategy employed by BAZNAS has been relatively successful in fostering positive relationships with its audience. Public engagement is reflected in the high level of interaction on Instagram and TikTok, while the website functions as an information hub that reinforces transparency.Key factors influencing the effectiveness of BAZNAS’s digital communication include the transparent presentation of information through infographics and fund distribution reports, prompt responsiveness to public inquiries, and active collaboration with religious figures and influencers. These elements have directly contributed to increased public trust in the institution. This study recommends improving content consistency, strengthening collaborative strategies, and optimizing interactive website features as strategic steps for advancing sustainable Islamic public relations through social media.

Abstract

This study is motivated by significant changes in da’wah (Islamic preaching) practices in the digital era, where social media has become a new space for preachers to deliver religious messages, while also presenting complex ethical and social meaning challenges. The viral video of Gus Miftah involving a sweet iced tea vendor serves as a concrete example of how a da’wah message can generate controversy due to its social representation and communicative style. Using Stuart Hall’s theory of representation, this research aims to analyze how meaning is constructed, conveyed, and interpreted within the context of contemporary da’wah, and how communication ethics and local cultural values are reflected in the process. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative research type and a qualitative content analysis design. Data were collected through documentation and archival analysis of the video content and digital sources. The findings reveal that the social meaning in Gus Miftah’s da’wah shifts through an encoding–decoding mechanism, where the term “goblog” undergoes reinterpretation when transferred to the digital realm. His egalitarian and humorous discursive practice becomes problematic when faced with a culturally diverse virtual audience. The da’wah reflects tensions between local wisdom and the universal values of Islam. This study recommends the development of digital da’wah strategies that are more sensitive to audience diversity and emphasizes the need for reinterpretation of preaching methods that align with Islamic communication ethics in modern public spheres.
