Abstract

Asahan Regency occupies the 13th position out of 33 regencies/cities as a rice producer in North Sumatra Province the rice productivity results are relatively low so that it is a problem that needs to be resolved. Agricultural extension workers act as motivators, educators, facilitators and communicators. This study aims to determine and analyze the influence of the role of agricultural extension agents on the productivity of paddy rice in Asahan Regency. The study was conducted in Asahan Regency, North Sumatra Province using primary data obtained from direct surveys and secondary data as supporting data using the Stratified Proportional Random Sampling method. The respondents were farmers from 3 sub-districts, namely Rawang Panca Arga, Sei Kepayang and Meranti districts. Data analysis using description analysis and Partial Least Square (PLS).

Abstract

A study of the role of extension workers in the implementation of OPT management in the context of sustainable agricultural ecosystems and its relation to lowland rice productivity in Asahan Regency is very relevant to carry out. Analyzing the impact of the role of extension workers on the use of different pest management techniques in encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices will provide valuable insights for the development of more sustainable agriculture, reducing environmental and health risks, and increasing farmer productivity and welfare. The research method used is "Field Research" with a "Case Study" approach. The research results show that lowland rice farmers in Asahan Regency have implemented various components of sustainable management of Plant Pest Organisms (OPT) using various approaches. They use physical, mechanical, technical culture, resistant varieties, biological control techniques, as well as control with rules and regulations to face the challenges of plant pests and diseases. Through a combination of these techniques, farmers strive to achieve a balance between the effectiveness of pest control and their positive impact on the environment Keywords: extension agent, OPT, sustainability INTISARIKajian tentang peran penyuluh terhadap implementasi pengelolaan OPT dalam rangka keberlanjutan ekosistem pertanian serta kaitannya dengan produktivitas padi sawah di Kabupaten Asahan sangat relevan untuk dilakukan.

Abstract

This study develops a decision support system for selecting sustainable agricultural locations amid the challenges of climate change. Two integrated multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods are employed: PIPRECIA (Pivot Pairwise Relative Criteria Importance Assessment) to determine the importance weights of criteria based on expert rankings, and MACROS (Measurement Alternatives and Ranking according to the Compromise Solution), a structured method used to evaluate and rank alternatives through normalization, weighted scoring, and compromise-based ranking. Six key criteria are considered: water availability, land suitability, flood risk, market access, government support, and microclimate conditions. The integration of PIPRECIA and MACROS enables a systematic and transparent evaluation process. The results indicate that location "G" achieves the highest compromise score of 0.985, signifying its suitability as the most optimal site for sustainable agricultural development. The primary contribution of this research lies in offering a quantitative and structured approach that accommodates environmental uncertainties while enhancing decision-making transparency. By integrating expert judgment with computational assessment, this model supports data-driven decision-making in the planning of agricultural development. These findings are expected to provide strategic insights for policymakers in formulating adaptive agricultural policies, strengthening food security, and improving farmer welfare through accurate and sustainable location selection.
