Abstract

Aquaculture technology to increase productivity includes sex reversal or masculinization. Masculinization of snakehead fish (Channa striata) is essential to balance the male sex ratio for sustainable aquaculture. One approach is the use of natural compounds to reduce dependence on synthetic hormones that are less environmentally friendly. Natural substances such as mangosteen peel extract (Garcinia mangostana) contain aromatase inhibitors. This study aimed to determine the optimal dosage of mangosteen peel extract for inducing sex reversal in snakehead fish. Two-week-old fry were immersed in different treatments (control 0 g/L, 0.5 g/L, 0.7 g/L, and 0.9 g/L) for 4 hours and reared for 2 months. Gonads were examined microscopically using aceto-carmine staining. Results showed that the highest male proportion was obtained at 0.9 g/L, while the highest survival rate was recorded at 0.7 g/L. The Kruskal–Wallis test (H=7.64; p=0.054) indicated no significant differences among treatments in male proportion. The Mann–Whitney U test (p=0.077) between control and each treatment confirmed that formal differences were not significant, although a trend of increased male proportion was observed across all treatments. One-way ANOVA (F=16.72; p=0.0008) demonstrated that treatment doses significantly affected survival. Tukey HSD revealed that all treatments differed significantly from control (p<0.05), while no significant differences occurred among treatment doses (p>0.05). In conclusion, doses of 0.5–0.9 g/L were effective in promoting masculinization while maintaining optimal survival in snakehead fish.

Abstract

Micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSMEs) processing salted eggs in Jatimulyo Village, Kuwarasan Subdistrict, Kebumen Regency, exhibit considerable economic potential stemming from straightforward production processes, locally accessible raw materials, and consistent market demand. Nevertheless, these enterprises encounter substantial obstacles, including limited comprehension of halal product assurance mechanisms, deficiencies in business legality documentation, and the lack of systematic production records, thereby constraining their competitiveness and expanded market penetration-particularly among consumers who increasingly demand verifiable halal assurance. This community services initiative sought to guide salted egg producers in securing halal certification via the self-declare pathway, thereby bolstering business legitimacy, consumer confidence, and the overall competitiveness of local products. Employing a participatory mentoring framework, the program encompassed eligibility assessment for self-declare suitability, facilitation of Business Identification Number (NIB) acquisition, interactive socialization on halal principles and regulation involving approximately 30 village participants, technical assistance in data submission and document uploading via the SiHalal platform, on site production process verification in collaboration with Halal Product Process Assistants (PPH), and formulation of self-declaration statements. The intervention yielded enhanced producer capacity to understand and satisfy halal certification prerequisites, successful attainment of NIB for formal business recognition, and improved preparedness for certification application. These advancements are anticipated to facilitate broader market outreach, elevate product value addition, and foster the long-term, self-reliant sustainability of village-rooted micro enterprises leveraging indigenous resources (Ilham, 2023).

Abstract

This study examines the outcomes of a community-based digital transformation program for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Sawangan Village through the implementation of the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) and the integration of business locations into Google Maps. Prior to the program, most MSMEs relied on cash-based transactions and had limited digital visibility due to the absence of online location mapping. The intervention was implemented across all six hamlets in Sawangan Village and consisted of digital marketing socialization, hands on assistance in QRIS registration, Google Maps business listing, and continuous monitoring and evaluation. The results indicate a significant improvement in MSMEs’ understanding, readiness, and confidence in adopting digital payment systems and utilizing Google Maps as a promotional and accessibility tool. QRIS implementation facilitated faster, safer, and more efficient non-cash transactions, while Google Maps listing enhanced business visibility and consumer accessibility, particularly for customers outside the village area. Despite challenges related to limited digital literacy and technical constraints such as internet connectivity, practical and participatory mentoring proved effective in overcoming these barriers. Overall, the findings demonstrate that sustained, practice-oriented assistance plays a crucial role in accelerating MSME digital adoption, strengthening competitiveness, and supporting sustainable local economic development in rural areas.
