Abstract

This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design to examine the implementation of ecopedagogical-based learning in Social Studies (IPS) at SMP Negeri 4 Parepare., focusing on its contribution to raising students' ecological awareness. Ecopedagogical-based learning integrates classroom theory with practical environmental experiences, encouraging students to not only understand environmental issues but also take responsibility for environmental conservation. At SMP Negeri 4 Parepare, the application of this approach through Project-Based Learning (PBL) and contextual learning methods has proven to significantly enhance students' ecological awareness, as seen in activities like tree planting and waste management. However, the implementation of this learning approach faces challenges, such as limitations in resources, funding, and curriculum time. Despite these obstacles, the school has worked to address these challenges by adopting creative approaches, such as collaborating with external organizations and utilizing more flexible learning methods. Student involvement in ecopedagogical-based activities, such as the "Clean Friday" program and greening initiatives, has positively influenced their environmentally friendly behaviors. This study concludes that, despite various challenges, ecopedagogical-based learning at SMP Negeri 4 Parepare has successfully raised students' ecological awareness and contributed to environmental conservation.

Abstract

The issue of environmental degradation, such as pollution, deforestation, and inefficient waste management, requires serious attention in efforts to cultivate ecological awareness from an early age. This study aims to examine the contribution of Social Studies (IPS) education in shaping students' environmental awareness at SMP Negeri 4 Parepare, a recipient of the Adiwiyata award. The environment-based learning implemented at this school integrates environmental issues with practical activities, such as reforestation and waste management, to enhance students' ecological awareness. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, involving observations, interviews with students, teachers, and the school principal, as well as documentation of learning activities focused on environmental principles. The findings indicate that IPS education at SMP Negeri 4 Parepare successfully instills environmental care attitudes among students. Practical activities involving students in real-life actions, such as tree planting and cleanliness campaigns, strengthen their understanding of the importance of preserving nature. Furthermore, the role of teachers as facilitators and role models in applying Adiwiyata-based education significantly supports the success of this learning approach. Therefore, the study concludes that integrating environment-based IPS education can shape students' environmentally responsible characters and can serve as a reference for other schools in developing effective environmental education.

Abstract

The Air Manuk Tradition is one of the cultural heritages of the people of Kur Island, Tual City, which continues to be preserved as an integral part of their social, religious, and historical identity. This tradition is not merely regarded as a customary ritual but also serves as a medium for transmitting Islamic values from one generation to another through prayers, dhikr, hadarah recitations, and respect for ancestors as well as Islamic figures who contributed to the spread of Islam in the region. This study aims to examine the historical origins of the Air Manuk Tradition and to analyze the Islamic educational values embedded within it. The research employed a qualitative method with historical and ethnographic approaches. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with customary leaders, religious leaders, and local community members, as well as documentation studies related to the implementation of the tradition. The findings reveal that the Air Manuk Tradition is closely connected to the process of the arrival and development of Islam on Kur Island through missionary activities, trade networks, and cultural interactions. The tradition embodies various Islamic educational values, including religiosity, respect for ancestors, Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), mutual cooperation, social solidarity, moral responsibility, and spiritual development for younger generations. In addition to functioning as a symbol of the cultural identity of the Kur Island community, the Air Manuk Tradition also serves as a means of preserving local Islamic history and strengthening Islamic character within society. Therefore, this tradition plays a significant role in maintaining the continuity of cultural heritage and Islamic educational values amidst the challenges of modernization and globalization.
