Using a qualitative method based on literature studies, this study examines relevant primary and secondary sources. The results of the study show that Islamic education needs to instill the values of patience, honesty, and exemplary as an antidote to instant culture and digital hypocrisy. Abstract

Educational transformation has become inevitable amid the development of digital technology in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the concept of Society 5.0. Islamic Religious Education (IRE) is required not only to focus on the transfer of religious knowledge but also to adapt to technological and informational advancements, as well as the needs of modern society. This study aims to analyze the forms of transformation in Islamic Religious Education in addressing the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Society 5.0, as well as their implications for the learning process. This study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach (library research) through the analysis of various relevant literature, scientific journals, books, and documents related to the research topic. Data analysis techniques involve data reduction, data presentation, and the systematic drawing of conclusions. Research findings indicate that the transformation of Islamic Religious Education in this era encompasses the use of digital technology in learning, the strengthening of digital literacy and religious character, and the development of innovative, student-centered learning models. Furthermore, integrating Islamic values with 21st-century skills is a crucial step in preparing a generation that is religious, critical, creative, and adaptable to the changing times. Thus, the transformation of Islamic Religious Education in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Society 5.0 emphasizes not only technological proficiency but also the reinforcement of spiritual, moral, and social values in modern society.

Abstract

This study explores the reactualization of ‘aqal (intellect) and qalb (heart) in Islamic education within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum, emphasizing the integration of deep learning and a love-based pedagogical approach. Contemporary Islamic education often tends to prioritize cognitive achievement while underemphasizing affective and spiritual dimensions, resulting in an imbalance in the holistic development of learners. This research aims to conceptually analyze how the synergy between ‘aqal and qalb can be strengthened through innovative learning paradigms that align with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. Using a qualitative library research method, this study examines relevant literature on Islamic educational philosophy, deep learning theory, and love-based curriculum approaches. The findings indicate that deep learning fosters critical thinking, reflection, and meaningful understanding, while a love-based approach nurtures empathy, compassion, and spiritual awareness. The integration of these approaches provides a holistic framework that aligns intellectual rigor with emotional and spiritual development. Furthermore, the Merdeka Curriculum offers a flexible and student-centered platform that enables educators to implement this integrative model effectively. The study concludes that the harmonization of ‘aqal and qalb through deep learning and love-based education can enhance the quality of Islamic education by producing learners who are intellectually competent, emotionally balanced, and spiritually grounded. This approach also reinforces the role of education as a transformative process that not only transmits knowledge but also cultivates character and moral integrity

Abstract

This study aims to identify the global challenges faced by Islamic educational institutions (madrasahs, Islamic schools and pesantren) in Indonesia and to analyse effective strategies for enhancing their competitiveness. The study employed a qualitative literature review method, analysing various academic journals, books, and official reports from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Central Statistics Agency over the past five years. The findings indicate that the main challenges include socio-cultural changes that threaten local Islamic values, fierce competition with state and international schools, and managerial and funding constraints. The study also found that successful adaptation strategies include the implementation of quality management, curriculum innovation integrating religious and general studies, the utilisation of digital technology, institutional collaboration, teacher competency development, international partnership programmes, and outcome-based evaluation. In conclusion, Islamic educational institutions must undergo holistic transformation without losing their essential identity in order to remain relevant and competitive on the global stage. This research provides a strategic framework for Islamic education leaders in facing global competition.
