Abstract

The rapid development of digital communication technology has encouraged the emergence of interactive learning media such as YouTube, which is increasingly used for early childhood education. One of the educational channels, Kinderflix, combines educational and entertainment elements (edutainment) through an expressive and engaging host. In this context, communication style plays a crucial role in delivering messages effectively to young audiences. This study aims to analyze the communication style of the host on the Kinderflix YouTube channel by applying Mead and Blumer’s Symbolic Interactionism theory and Norton’s communicator style framework. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using purposively selected data from Kinderflix videos, verbal transcripts, and nonverbal observation notes based on educational relevance and interactivity. The findings reveal that the Kinderflix host applies three main communication styles: assertive, responsive, and attentive (child-centered). The assertive style is used to give clear directions, the responsive style builds emotional connection through empathy and praise, while the attentive style adapts language, tone, and gestures to children’s developmental characteristics. The synergy of these styles creates an interactive, engaging, and effective communication pattern that enhances understanding and learning motivation among early childhood audiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of father-child conflict through interpersonal communication in the film Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap using Stuart Hall's theory of representation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method within a constructivist paradigm. The analysis was conducted using the constructionist approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation and documentation of scenes, dialogues, and interactions among the characters in the film. The findings reveal that the conflict is represented through differences in life choices, lack of openness in communication, and clashes between paternal authority and children's freedom to determine their own future. The conflicts are represented through dialogues, sarcasm, defensive attitudes, and power relations within the family influenced by Batak cultural values. The study also indicates that ineffective interpersonal communication reinforces family conflict and affects the relationship between fathers and their children. Through Stuart Hall's theory of representation, Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap highlights the importance of openness, empathy, mutual understanding, and respect for each family member's life choices in building harmonious family relationships. Therefore, this study concludes that the representation of conflict in the film not only portrays differences in perspectives between fathers and children but also demonstrates how cultural values shape interpersonal communication patterns and conflict resolution within the family.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of anonymity in fostering self-disclosure during social interactions among members of the Indo Hangout community on Roblox. The study employs a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological approach, aiming to explore members’ experiences in communicating through virtual identities. Five informants participated in this study; they were selected through purposive sampling based on their active participation in the community and their experiences with virtual self-disclosure. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The results indicate that anonymity acts as a catalyst for self-disclosure because it provides a sense of psychological safety, thereby reducing fears of judgment, stigma, and real-world social consequences. The process of self-disclosure occurs gradually, ranging from the exchange of general information to the sharing of more personal experiences and feelings. As closeness and trust among members increased, some individuals chose to reduce their level of anonymity by revealing their identities outside the platform. These findings confirm that anonymity not only serves as a shield for identity but also facilitates more relaxed communication, thereby strengthening closer social bonds within the virtual community.

Abstract

This study examines late adolescents’ perceptions of claw-machine gift content uploaded on Willie Salim’s TikTok account, a form of viral content that presents gift-giving activities through an interactive game concept. Based on Jalaluddin Rakhmat’s perception theory, this study analyzes three stages of perception: attention, interpretation, and evaluation, to understand how young audiences perceive and interpret digital sharing content. A qualitative case study approach was applied involving five late-adolescent informants aged 17–19 years residing in RT 003 RW 015, Puri Cendana Housing Complex, Tambun, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by methodological triangulation. The results indicate that adolescents’ attention is influenced by internal factors, such as familiarity and experience, as well as external factors, including visual attractiveness, prize value, and content presentation. Informants generally interpreted the content as a combination of sharing and entertainment, although some questioned the creator’s underlying motives. The evaluation stage showed predominantly positive and neutral perceptions, with critical awareness of possible content construction. The study concludes that entertainment value and perceived sincerity significantly shape adolescent perceptions of digital sharing content.

Abstract

The construction of the message of honesty in the short film “Benih Kejujuran,” produced and published on the YouTube channel Cerdas Berkarakter of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikdasmen RI), is examined as a form of the government's digital public relations practice. A qualitative descriptive approach, situated within the constructivist paradigm and informed by Walter Fisher's Narrative Paradigm, is employed to analyze the film's textual elements, including scenes, dialogue, characterization, and conflict resolution. The analysis is guided by six indicators derived from the two dimensions of narrative rationality, namely narrative coherence (structural, material, and characterological) and narrative fidelity (values, consequences, and experiential overlap). Data were obtained through non-participant observation, documentation, and an in-depth interview with a film studies expert as supporting evidence, while source triangulation was applied to ensure the validity of the findings. The results demonstrate that the film achieves strong structural coherence through its linear narrative, material coherence through its resemblance to familiar children's moral stories such as Pinocchio and The Empty Pot, and characterological coherence through the consistent depiction of Syamila as an honest character. Regarding narrative fidelity, the film presents honesty as a desirable moral value, illustrates logical social consequences for dishonest behavior, and reflects experiences that closely align with the everyday school life of Indonesian children. These findings suggest that “Benih Kejujuran” demonstrates strong narrative rationality and effectively functions as a digital public relations medium through which Kemendikdasmen RI communicates character education values in a persuasive rather than overtly didactic manner, while also indicating opportunities to strengthen the authenticity of the school environment portrayed in the film.
