Abstract

Two sources of REEs are from mineral monazite and xenotime. The availability of REEs is relatively abundant in the earth’s crust, typically dispersed, and rarely occur in ores. In this study as raw material was a mixed rare earth concentrate from Monokem Surya Ltd. The purposes of this research were to determine the effect of concentration H2C2O4, stirring speed, and temperature regarding to purity and recovery REEs from the mixed rare earth concentrate. The experiments were conducted in five steps:(1) Alkaline fusion, the process was performed about 3 hours at 450oC, with ratio of NaOH solid to the mixed rare earth concentrate sand was 1:1, in order to break phosphate bonds;(2) Leaching of phosphate in alkaline fusion product using aquadest at 80 oC; (3) Aquadest leaching residue was leached using 6 M HCl for 2 hours to dissolve REEs at 90 oC; (4) Removal of impurities such as uranium and thorium by precipitating them using NH4OH at pH 1; (5) Precipitation of REEs from filtrate produced from point (4) using H2C2O4. The results of REEs with 96% purity and 95% recovery was obtained at concentration H2C2O4 8,11%, stirring speed 500 rpm, and temperature 70oC.

Abstract

From the analysis of zircon tailings using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Yttrium is a rare earth element (REE) with the highest concentration compared to other REEs. The purpose of this study is to determine the best kinetic model for describing how sulfuric acid extracts Yttrium from zircon tailings. Leaching temperatures of 200, 250, and 300 °C were used to determine the kinetics. Samples were obtained at 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 min for each temperature. This study discovered that the chemical reaction model's kinetics are the most closely related to those of the leaching process. The evaluation of the model utilizing the coefficient of determination (R2) on the relationship between each model and time lends support to this conclusion. The activation energy (Ea) of the leaching process is determined by the Arrhenius plot between ln k and 1/T. In the Yttrium leaching procedure, the Ea value is 14.42 kJ/mol. The chemical reaction model was in charge of the leaching process, according to the Ea value. The premise of the chemical reaction model is that chemical reactions regulate the rate of the reaction.

Abstract

Hydrometallurgical processes such as leaching of limonite ore to extract valuable metals including Ni and Co are often non-selective, including other metals in the leachate product. The leaching behavior of Cr from the chromite mineral contained in limonite ore is of concern due to the high Cr content of the leachate effluent. The pre-roasted process is frequently used to pre-treat limonite to increase the precious metal content. This study aims to determine the leaching behavior of Cr and the effect of pre-roasting on its kinetic parameters. The pre-roasting process was carried out at 280 and 610 oC for 4 hours. Observation of Cr leaching behavior was carried out in the leaching temperature range of 30-90 oC for 0-120 minutes using sulfuric acid solvent. The highest Cr recovery was achieved in pre-roasted ore leaching at 610 oC with leaching operating conditions of 2 M sulfuric acid, solid-liquid ratio of 5 g/50 mL, 200 rpm, for 120 minutes, at a leaching temperature of 90 oC, under these conditions Cr recovery reached 53.16%. The higher the roasting temperature, the lower the activation energy required for the leaching process. Cr leaching from raw and pre-roasted ore is controlled by the diffusion process through the ash layer with activation energies (EA) of 21.41, 18.64, and 14.71 kJ/mol for raw ore, pre-roasted ore 280 oC, and pre-roasted ore 610 oC, respectively. The comparison of kinetics data from several roasting products for atmospheric leaching feeds will provide industry with information to integrated pyro-hydrometallurgical process to increase Cr production from laterite.
