Abstract

The phenomenon of social media addiction in adolescents, especially TikTok and YouTube Shorts, is increasingly worrying. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan) Self-Management intervention in reducing social media addiction levels. The study design used a quasi-experiment with a pre-post control group. Respondents were 40 grade X students of SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran (20 treatment, 20 control). The instrument used was the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), with Cronbach’s alpha values ranging from 0.79 to 0.88, indicating good internal consistency, while previous studies reported test–retest reliability values between r = 0.75 and ICC = 0.96. In the initial stage, students received  WOOP Self-management website coaching, followed by a 14-day self-management intervention. Data analysis used the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that the treatment group experienced a decrease in the average social media addiction score from 44.85 to 38.15, while the control group showed no significant change (32.35 to 33.40). The Mann–Whitney U test resulted in p = 0.007 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference between groups. These findings prove that WOOP Self-Management is effective in reducing social media addiction in adolescents.   ABSTRAK Kecanduan media sosial pada remaja, terutama melalui platform TikTok dan YouTube Shorts, menjadi masalah serius yang berdampak pada kesehatan mental dan perilaku. Penelitian ini bertujuan menilai efektivitas WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan) Self-Management dalam menurunkan tingkat kecanduan media sosial. Metode penelitian menggunakan desain quasi-eksperimen dengan kelompok perlakuan dan kontrol. Sampel sebanyak 40 siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran dibagi menjadi dua kelompok (20  perlakuan, 20 kontrol). Instrumen penelitian adalah kuesioner Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) nilai Cronbach’s alpha BSMAS berada pada rentang 0,79–0,88, yang menunjukkan tingkat konsistensi internal yang baik. Penelitian lain melaporkan nilai test–retest reliability berkisar antara r = 0,75 hingga ICC = 0,96. Tahap pertama siswa diberikan edukasi cara penggunaan web WOOP self-Management dan tahap kedua diberikan intervensi mandiri selama 14 hari, Analisis data menggunakan uji normalitas Shapiro–Wilk dan uji Mann–Whitney U. Hasil menunjukkan kelompok perlakuan mengalami penurunan skor rata-rata kecanduan media sosial dari 44,85 menjadi 38,15, sedangkan kelompok kontrol tidak menunjukkan perubahan signifikan (32,35 menjadi 33,40). Uji Mann–Whitney U menghasilkan p = 0,007 (<0,05), yang berarti terdapat perbedaan signifikan antar kelompok. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa WOOP Self-Management efektif dalam mengurangi kecanduan media sosial pada remaja.

Abstract

The development of social media such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts has a significant impact on the lives of teenagers, especially in psychological aspects and social behavior. Excessive use of social media can lead to addiction, reduce self-control, and impact mental health and academic achievement. This Community Service activity aims to increase student literacy about the web which is useful for reducing social media addiction. This website is about training self-management through the WOOP method (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan). The approach used in this service is an educational approach (Educational/Training Approach). The activity is carried out with a focus on increasing students' knowledge and skills in using the web. The activity was carried out at SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran involving 40 students. The results of the activity showed an increase in knowledge and skills in using the web as shown by students being able to use the web by identifying goals (wish), obstacles (obstacle), results (Outcome), concrete plans (plan) to reduce excessive use of social media. Thus, WOOP Self-Management web education has been proven to be able to increase students' knowledge and skills in using WOOP self-management web to reduce the level of social media addiction and increase healthy digital behavior in adolescents. This program is recommended to be integrated into school guidance and counseling activities to support character development and students' mental health.   ABSTRAK Perkembangan media sosial seperti TikTok dan YouTube Shorts memberikan dampak signifikan terhadap kehidupan remaja, khususnya dalam aspek psikologis dan perilaku sosial. Penggunaan media sosial yang berlebihan dapat menimbulkan kecanduan, menurunkan kontrol diri, serta berdampak pada kesehatan mental dan prestasi akademik. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi siswa tentang web yang yang berguna untuk menurunkan addiksi/ kecanduan sosial media. Web ini tentang  melatih self-management melalui metode WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan). Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini dengan pendekatan edukasi (Educational/Training Approach).Kegiatan dilaksanakan fokusnya pada peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan siswa dalam menggunakan web. Kegiatan dilakukan di SMA Negeri 2 Ungaran dengan melibatkan 40 siswa. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan dalam menggunakan web yang ditunjukkan dari siswa mampu menggunakan web dengan mengidentifikasi tujuan (wish), hambatan (obstacle), hasil (Outcome), rencana konkret (plan) untuk mengurangi penggunaan media sosial secara berlebihan. Dengan demikian, edukasi web WOOP Self-Management terbukti mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan siswa dalam menggunakan web WOOP self-management untuk menurunkan tingkat social media addiction dan meningkatkan perilaku digital yang sehat pada remaja. Program ini direkomendasikan untuk diintegrasikan ke dalam kegiatan bimbingan konseling sekolah guna mendukung pengembangan karakter dan kesehatan mental siswa.
