Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of adding eggshell powder (ESP) on the acceleration of drying time and compressive strength of concrete at 3 and 7 days of age. ESP is used as an additive because of its calcium carbonate (CaCO3) content, which has the potential to accelerate the cement hydration process. The research was conducted through experimental methods in the laboratory with SKT variations of 0%, 0.5%, 3%, and 5% of the cement weight. The tests included a slump test, daily concrete weight reduction as an indicator of drying time acceleration, and compressive strength using 15 × 15 × 15 cm cube test specimens. The results showed that the addition of SKT accelerated the drying process in K-175 concrete, as indicated by a greater weight loss compared to normal concrete, with the highest acceleration at a variation of 5%, experiencing a total weight loss of 2.19% at 7 days. Meanwhile, the optimal compressive strength was obtained in the 0.5% variation with an average value of 5.95 MPa at 3 days of age and in the 3% variation with an average value of 6.15 MPa at 7 days of age. The addition of 5% SKT tends to reduce compressive strength due to an increase in concrete porosity. Thus, the optimal SKT content is in the range of 0.5%–3% because it can accelerate drying time without significantly reducing the quality of K-175 concrete. Therefore, the use of SKT has the potential to be an environmentally friendly alternative additive to accelerate the concrete drying process.
