Abstract

The philosophy of science plays a vital role in shaping scientific inquiry, guiding the way knowledge is constructed, validated, and applied across disciplines. However, there remains a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding its relevance and application in the context of contemporary education and technology. Therefore, this study aims to systematically review recent research trends and conceptual developments related to the philosophy of science within the 21st-century academic landscape. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach using publications indexed in Scopus from 2015 to 2025. A total of 85 articles were analyzed through bibliometric mapping and qualitative synthesis to identify emerging patterns and dominant themes. The results reveal three major synthesized themes: (1) the integration of the philosophy of science in educational practices to strengthen epistemological awareness; (2) its role in navigating the ethical and epistemic challenges of digital technology; and (3) its contribution to fostering critical and reflective scientific thinking. The novelty of this study lies in highlighting the evolving interface between philosophy of science and technological transformation in education. Practically, the findings provide a conceptual framework for integrating philosophical reflection into scientific and technological curricula. This study contributes to the advancement of science and technology by offering a holistic understanding of how philosophical foundations can support the development of responsible, innovative, and reflective scientific practices.

Abstract

This article examines the influence of existentialist philosophy on the concept of modern education, specifically in terms of freedom, responsibility, and self-awareness among learners. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, the author analyzes 15 relevant scholarly articles to examine how existentialist principles are applied in educational settings. The findings reveal that existentialism promotes a more humanistic and student-centered educational approach, allowing learners to determine their own learning paths with autonomy and accountability. Teachers act as facilitators who guide students in developing reflective, critical, and authentic character traits. Although the existentialist approach has great potential to improve educational quality, its implementation requires a flexible system and adaptive teachers. This article affirms that existentialist philosophy remains relevant in shaping a more meaningful and contemporary education system.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the main schools and branches of philosophy and explain how each contributes to the development of human thought. The research employs a systematic literature review method using databases obtained from Google Scholar. Researchers applied criteria to collect journal article data, including article types, journals published within the last four years, and keywords such as schools of philosophy, branches of philosophy, and philosophy. The results show that a total of fifteen research articles discussed schools and branches of philosophy. This study aims to enhance our understanding of various branches and schools of philosophy and how they help shape the framework of thought and decision-making processes in various aspects of life. This research highlights that the main branches of philosophy, including ontology, epistemology, ethics, logic, axiology, philosophy of education, and philosophy of science, each focus on essential aspects of understanding the world and human life. Various schools of philosophy, including materialism, realism, idealism, empiricism, rationalism, existentialism, and others, offer different perspectives on the world and the knowledge of it as we understand today.

Abstract

This study addresses the growing challenge of character education in the technological era, where rapid social change demands a strong and coherent philosophical foundation for education. The aim of this research is to examine how philosophical schools of thought particularly idealism and realism contribute to student character building, with Pancasila positioned as the national philosophical framework of Indonesian education. This study employs a qualitative approach using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Relevant articles were collected from reputable academic databases using keywords related to educational philosophy, idealism, realism, character education, and Pancasila. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to select peer-reviewed journals that are relevant to the research focus, resulting in a synthesized analysis of selected studies. The findings indicate that Pancasila serves as a central and integrative philosophical foundation for Indonesian education. Idealism emphasizes universal values and absolute truth, which are essential for character formation, while realism highlights the importance of empirical experience and contextual learning. However, the implementation of these philosophies especially idealism faces significant challenges when they are not deeply integrated into curricula, teacher training, and educational practice. The study concludes that effective character education requires moving beyond philosophical concepts at the theoretical level toward practical, philosophically grounded pedagogical strategies. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative analysis of idealism, realism, and Pancasila within a single SLR framework, while its contribution is to provide a philosophical reference for policymakers and educators in strengthening character education that is contextually relevant and value-oriented in Indonesia.
