Abstract

The digital era has brought significant changes in the way students access, process, and evaluate information, thereby demanding more advanced scientific reasoning skills. This study aims to analyze the role of the philosophy of science in developing the scientific reasoning of graduate students in Social Studies Education at Makassar State University amidst the challenges of the digital era, characterized by information overload, misinformation, and algorithmic bias. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that students have a high understanding of the philosophy of science, covering the aspects of ontology, epistemology, and axiology, and are able to apply it in academic activities. The findings also indicate that students' critical thinking skills are in the high category, although the aspects of evaluation and inference still need strengthening. This study confirms that a deep understanding of the philosophy of science contributes significantly to shaping a critical, systematic, and reflective mindset, thus serving as an important foundation in facing the complexity of information in the digital era. Therefore, integrating the philosophy of science into higher education becomes a strategic step in building an academic generation that is adaptive, ethical, and possesses strong reasoning abilities.

Abstract

This study examines the mappasikarawa tradition in Bugis marriage practices in North Morowali, with an emphasis on its cultural meanings, embedded values, and its contribution to strengthening cross-cultural education. Mappasikarawa is understood as a customary practice that symbolizes the union of individuals and families, while also embodying ethical values such as siri’ na pacce (dignity and social empathy), lempu’ (honesty), and getteng (steadfastness of principles), which serve as the foundation of Bugis social life. This research employs a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods, including in-depth interviews, participant observation, and cultural documentation. The findings indicate that the mappasikarawa tradition continues to be preserved through adaptive customary practices without diminishing its fundamental values. The main contribution of this study lies in interpreting mappasikarawa as a source of cultural pedagogy that functions as a form of informal education in transmitting values of tolerance, respect for diversity, and multicultural awareness. Thus, the mappasikarawa tradition plays a strategic role in supporting the development of cross-cultural education based on local wisdom and in strengthening local cultural identity within a pluralistic society.ABSTRAK                 Penelitian ini mengkaji tradisi mappasikarawa dalam pernikahan masyarakat bugis di Morowali Utara dengan menekankan pada pemaknaan budaya, nilai-nilai yang terkandung, serta kontribusinya terhadap penguatan Pendidikan lintas budaya. Mappasikarawa dipahami sebagai praktik adat yang mempresentasikan penyatuan individu dan keluarga, sekaligus memuat nilai etis seperti siri’na pace (martabat dan empati sosial), lempu’(kejujuran), dan getting (keteguhan prinsip) yang menjadi landasan kehidupan sosial masyarakat bugis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan dokumentasi budaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tradisi Mappasikarawa masih di lestarikan melalui praktik adat yang adaptif tanpa menghilangkan nilai-nilai dasarnya. Kontribusi utama penelitian ini terletak pada pemaknaan mappasikarawa sebagai sumber pedagogi budaya, yang berfungsi sebagai media Pendidikan informal dalam mentransmisikan nilai toleransi, penghormatan terhadap keberagaman, dan kesadaran multikultural. Dengan demikian, tradisi Mappasikarawa memiliki peran strategi dalam mendukung pengembangan Pendidikan lintas budaya berbasis kearifan lokal, serta memperkuat identitas budaya lokal dalam konteks masyarakat plural.
