Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Nutritious Food Yard Concept (Pekarangan Pangan Bergizi/P2B) in supporting community nutritional needs in Lembang Ke’pe’ Tinoring, Mengkendek District, Tana Toraja Regency. The research was motivated by the suboptimal utilization of home yards as sources of nutritious food, despite their potential to support household food security. The study employed a quantitative descriptive method involving 70 farmer group members participating in the P2B program, selected using purposive sampling. The variables examined included the implementation of the P2B concept and the fulfillment of community nutritional needs, with indicators covering yard size, group activity, cultivation techniques, household consumption of yard produce, and reduction in food expenditure. The findings indicate that most respondents were in the productive age group (41–50 years), had secondary education levels, and owned medium-sized yards (120–400 m²). The use of home yards significantly improved household food availability, increased the consumption of vegetables and fruits, and reduced food expenditure. Internal factors such as yard size and group participation were found to significantly influence program success, while external factors included agricultural extension and technical assistance. Overall, the application of the Nutritious Food Yard Concept contributed positively to household food security and the fulfillment of community nutritional needs in the study area.

Abstract

Indonesia prioritizes the development of food security as a foundation for other sectors. Food security and the fulfillment of community nutrition are among the main indicators of human resource development. Indonesia still faces various nutritional problems, such as low consumption of vegetables and fruits, inadequate intake of micronutrients, and high prevalence of stunting and anemia in several regions. The success of utilizing home gardens cannot be separated from various factors, such as access to superior seeds and seedlings, cultivation knowledge, water availability, and the level of participation of family members (Sulistyawati et al., 2020). This study aims to describe the implementation of nutritious food home gardens by the community in Lembang Ke’pe’ Tinoring, to analyze the application of the nutritious food home garden concept in supporting the nutritional needs of the community in Lembang Ke’pe’ Tinoring, Mengkendek District, Tana Toraja Regency, and to identify factors influencing the success of implementing nutritious food home gardens, as well as to identify constraints and solutions in their implementation. The research approach uses a quantitative descriptive method, with a population of 70 members of farmer groups receiving the P2B program, and sampling conducted through purposive sampling. The variables studied include the implementation of the P2B concept and the fulfillment of community nutritional needs, with indicators consisting of yard area, group activeness, consumption of garden produce, and reduction in food expenditure. The results show that the utilization of nutritious food home gardens contributes fairly well to family nutrition and economic aspects, as indicated by an increase in family income through P2B categorized as good, fairly good family nutrition understanding, and adequate fulfillment of nutrition through P2B.

Abstract

Indonesia mengutamakan pembangunan ketahanan pangan sebagai pondasi bagi sektor lainnya. Ketahanan pangan dan pemenuhan gizi masyarakat merupakan salah satu indikator utama pembangunan sumber daya manusia. Indonesia masih menghadapi berbagai permasalahan gizi, seperti rendahnya konsumsi sayur dan buah, ketidakcukupan asupan zat gizi mikro, serta tingginya prevalensi stunting dan anemia di beberapa wilayah. Keberhasilan pemanfaatan pekarangan tidak terlepas dari berbagai faktor, seperti akses terhadap benih dan bibit unggul, pengetahuan budidaya, ketersediaan air, serta tingkat partisipasi anggota keluarga (Sulistyawati et al., 2020). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan pekarangan pangan bergizi oleh masyarakat di Lembang Ke’pe’ Tinoring, menganalisis penerapan konsep pekarangan pangan bergizi dalam menunjang kebutuhan gizi masyarakat di Lembang Ke’pe’ Tinoring, Kecamatan Mengkendek, Kabupaten Tana Toraja dan mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi keberhasilan penerapan pekarangan pangan bergizi dan menemukan kendala dan solusi dalam implementasi pekarangan pangan bergizi. Pendekatan penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif, dengan populasi sebanyak 70 orang anggota kelompok tani penerima program P2B dan pengambilan sampel secara purposive sampling. Variable yang diteliti meliputi penerapan konsep P2B dan pemenuhan kebutuhan gizi Masyarakat, dengan indikator luas pekarangan, keaktifan kelompok, konsumsi hasil pekarangan dan pengurangan pengeluaran pangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman anggota kelompok tani akan pemanfaatan pekarangan pangan bergizi termasuk dalam kategori sangat baik dan juga pemberian program yang tepat sasaran sehingga dalam pelaksanaannya dapat mencapai tujuan yang diharapkan yaitu dapat menunjang kebutuhan gizi keluarga
