Abstract

Humanitarian challenges in the contemporary era increasingly demand ethical frameworks that are both universal and contextually relevant. While international humanitarian norms provide globally recognized standards, Islamic ethics offer a distinctive moral foundation grounded in divine accountability and social responsibility. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of Islamic ethical principles and international humanitarian norms in modern contexts. Employing a qualitative research design, the study draws upon in-depth interviews with Islamic scholars and humanitarian practitioners, complemented by document analysis of relevant texts and guidelines. The findings reveal significant areas of convergence, such as the shared emphasis on human dignity, justice, and the protection of vulnerable groups. However, divergence emerges in the epistemological grounding, where Islamic ethics prioritize transcendental values rooted in revelation, while international norms emphasize secular and legalistic frameworks. The study highlights both opportunities and tensions in integrating these perspectives, particularly in contexts where global standards must engage with religious traditions. Theoretically, the research contributes to the discourse on comparative ethics by bridging Islamic thought and global humanitarian paradigms. Practically, it offers insights for policymakers, NGOs, and educational institutions seeking to develop more inclusive and culturally sensitive humanitarian approaches. Keywords: Islamic ethics, humanitarian norms, comparative analysis, global ethics, qualitative study

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a value- and love-based learning model for enhancing students’ character in digital learning contexts. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data were collected using pre- and post-tests administered with the Student Empathy and Character Values Scale (SENKS) to measure social empathy, social responsibility, and self-reflection. Meanwhile, qualitative data were obtained through participant observation, interviews, and learning documentation to explore the process of value internalization. The study was conducted over 12 weeks in three Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, involving 90 students in grades V–VI, six teachers, and three principals as key informants. Quantitative data were analyzed using a paired-samples t-test, and qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis; the results were integrated to provide a comprehensive understanding. The findings indicate that implementing the value- and love-based learning model significantly improves students’ character holistically. The average character score increased from 68.5 in the pre-test to 83.9 in the post-test (Δ = 15.4; p < 0.001), with the highest improvements observed in social empathy (26.4%), social responsibility (22.6%), and self-reflection (25.4%). Qualitative findings revealed improvements in collaboration (+77.8%), care for peers (+100%), and discipline (+70%), as well as the creation of a supportive classroom climate. The mechanisms of character transformation include emotional awareness, strengthening social relationships through collaboration, and internalizing values through reflection and teacher feedback.

Abstract

The decline in students’ social care character has become increasingly evident in contemporary educational contexts. Therefore, educational media that can foster and strengthen social care character are urgently needed. This study aims to examine the integration of Islamic values within scouting activities as an effort to develop students’ social care character at MI Fathul Huda Kalipakis. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with third-grade students serving as the primary data sources. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, while data credibility was ensured through triangulation techniques. The findings indicate that scouting activities play a significant role in shaping students’ social care character through various programs, including ceremonies, marching drills, knot-tying, hiking, and camping. Furthermore, social care character is reinforced through religious and social habituation, such as praying before and after activities, reciting Surah Al-Fatihah and selected short Qur’anic chapters, engaging in social service activities, helping others, visiting sick peers, and fostering mutual respect. These activities are integrated with Islamic values as reflected in Surah Al-Ma’un (1–3), Ali Imran (102), Maryam (96), Al-Ma’idah (2), An-Nisa (8), and Al-Hujurat (13).

Abstract

This study explores the integration of digital religious communication in Aqidah Akhlak learning to strengthen students’ religious attitudes at MI Plus Al Mahmud Blitar. The rapid growth of digital media has transformed teacher–student interactions in Islamic education, requiring pedagogical strategies that integrate technological innovation with value-oriented instruction. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving Aqidah Akhlak teachers and students engaged in digital-based learning. The findings reveal that digital religious communication serves as a transformative pedagogical medium that enhances student engagement, spiritual awareness, and moral understanding. Teachers utilize digital platforms such as interactive videos, online discussions, and digital storytelling to internalize Islamic values in ways that resonate with students’ digital lifestyles. The study concludes that integrating digital technology in Aqidah Akhlak learning is not merely a technical adaptation, but a form of spiritual pedagogical transformation that connects traditional Islamic values with contemporary digital contexts. These findings highlight the need for continuous teacher professional development in digital pedagogy to reinforce the effectiveness of Islamic education in the digital era.
