Abstract

This paper titled “Implementation of Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in Tertiary institutions in Nigeria: Impact and way forward” was carried out with the objectives of analyzing the impact of the implementation of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) on tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Secondary data were used in the paper. The secondary data were collected from print and online publications. The paper's theoretical framework was anchored on Marx & Engel's Class theory (1971). A content analytical approach was employed in the research methodology. The study concluded that the implementation of the IPPIS policy on federal tertiary institutions in Nigeria has led to the disengagement of contract staff in federal tertiary institutions; slow down recruitment in federal tertiary institutions; led to violation of the autonomy of the institutions and the IPPIS policy did not suit the management structure and peculiarities of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Based on these findings; the paper suggested that since the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) is not designed to suit the administration and management of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, therefore, the federal government should remove all tertiary institutions from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Abstract

Chemistry programme is one of the programme offered in the Nigerian higher institutions. It is a programme that is science inclined and vital to the social economic and technological advancement of Nigeria. The article discussed the challenges facing the administration of Chemistry programme in the Nigerian higher institutions. Secondary data was used to support the points raised in the article. The secondary data were sourced from printed material and online publication by recognized institutions and individual author. The article identified the following: inadequate funding of chemistry programme, shortage of chemistry lecturers, inadequate infrastructural facilities, brain-drain, strike actions and poor staff training as the challenges facing the administration of chemistry programme in the Nigerian higher institutions. To solve these challenges, this article recommends the following: government should increase the funding of chemistry programme in higher institutions, provide adequate infrastructural facilities, ensure stable academic programme, employment of more chemistry lecturers and motivation of lecturers to prevent brain-drain.

Abstract

Science education is faced with many problems in the Nigerian public universities and this is affecting the development of science education at the various public universities across the country.This presentation discusses the challenges facing teaching of science education in the Nigerian public universities. Secondary and primary data were sourced and used to support the points raised in the presentation. Inadequate funding, inadequate science lecturers, shortage of infrastructural facilities, Brain-drain, poor research, strike action and corruption were identified as challenges facing the teaching of science education in the Nigerian public universities. Adequate funding of science programme in the public universities, employment of more science lecturers, provision of adequate infrastructural facilities, increasing the funding of research programme in sciences, increasing the salaries of academic staff to prevent brain-drain and to motivate the lecturers, implement agreement reached with the unions in the universities and corruption in the universities should be fought using the various anti-corruption agencies in the country were recommended as the ways forward for the development of science education in Nigeria public universities.
