Abstract

Purpose – This study aimed to develop and evaluate CircuitPintar, a website-based learning medium designed to improve the competencies of vocational high school students in the Basic Electrical Theory element of the Electrical Installation Engineering program.Methodology – The research employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation trial involved 35 Grade X TITL students at SMKN 3 Surabaya. Data were collected through media and material validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, a 25-item cognitive test, and psychomotor and affective observation rubrics. Data were analyzed using percentage-based validity and practicality criteria, Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, paired-sample t-tests, and normalized gain (N-gain).Findings – CircuitPintar was categorized as highly valid in media validation (91%) and material validation (94%). Practicality was also high, with teacher responses of 91% and student responses of 86%. Students’ mean scores increased from 72.74 to 88.17 in the cognitive domain, from 71.77 to 88.74 in the psychomotor domain, and from 73.40 to 88.00 in the affective domain. All improvements were statistically significant (p < 0.001), and N-gain values for all domains were in the moderate category.Contribution – This study presents an empirically tested model of website-based vocational learning media that combines concept mastery and virtual practice on a single platform, offering a practical reference for developing similar digital media for other technical and vocational subjects.

Abstract

Single-phase induction motors experience high inrush current during the starting process, which can degrade power quality and accelerate electrical component deterioration. This research aims to design and evaluate an Arduino Nano–based soft starter system for a single-phase induction motor to limit the starting current. The proposed method employs stepwise series resistance control using relay modules driven by the Arduino Nano, while electrical parameters including voltage, current, and power are monitored in real time using a PZEM-004T sensor. Experimental tests were conducted by comparing the motor starting current before and after the implementation of the soft starter under several operating conditions. The results demonstrate that the proposed system is able to reduce the starting current by 15%–20% compared to direct-on-line operation, with stable and consistent current reduction characteristics. The analysis indicates that the current limitation effectively reduces electrical stress on the motor without adversely affecting the acceleration process. It can be concluded that the developed soft starter system successfully meets the research objectives and is suitable as a simple and cost-effective solution for controlling the starting current of single-phase induction motors.

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate baseline student satisfaction, compare service quality between two “Accredited Excellent” vocational engineering programs-S1 Building Engineering Education (PTB) and S1 Mechanical Engineering Education (PTM)-and diagnose operational bottlenecks to align empirical findings with institutional quality assurance and global educational standards. Method: A quantitative comparative-descriptive survey design was conducted with a stratified random sample of N = 422 undergraduate students (PTB N1 = 215 and PTM N2 = 207). Data were collected using a 23-indicator SERVQUAL instrument on a 4-point Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics (Mean, Standard Deviation, Respondent Achievement Degree/TCR), independent-samples t-tests (α = 0.05), and Cohen’s d effect size estimations. Results: Although overall satisfaction reached a “Satisfied” baseline (TCR = 75.47%), inferential testing revealed a statistically significant disparity (p = 0.0429) favoring PTB over PTM. Granular item analysis isolated critical operational bottlenecks in laboratory equipment adequacy (P18), general campus facility accessibility (P23), and administrative responsiveness in facility loan procedures (P16). Novelty: The research shows that top-tier accreditation does not guarantee uniform program-level service delivery, offering a pioneering framework that directly integrates granular SERVQUAL diagnostics into the institutional Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI-PPEPP cycle) and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Targets 4. a and 4.4).
