Abstract

The efficiency of pharmaceutical inventory is aimed not only at cost reduction but also at ensuring the continuity of patient care. To achieve pharmaceutical inventory efficiency, pharmaceutical inventory control, hospital formulary addendums, and physician adherence are required. The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of hospital formulary addendums and physician adherence to formulary-based prescribing on pharmaceutical inventory efficiency, with inventory control as an intervening variable. This research is confirmatory in nature and uses a quantitative approach. The sample consists of secondary data derived from observations of patient prescriptions at BSH Hospital over a 28-month period, from January 2022 to April 2024. The F-test concluded that hospital formulary addendums, physician adherence to prescribing, and pharmaceutical inventory control simultaneously influence pharmaceutical inventory efficiency. Using SEM-PLS analysis, it was found that pharmaceutical inventory control has a significant effect on pharmaceutical inventory efficiency. Furthermore, SEM analysis via JASP (Jeffrey's Amazing Statistics Program) showed that physician adherence to formulary-based prescribing has a direct influence on pharmaceutical inventory efficiency and also an indirect influence through inventory control. In contrast, hospital formulary addendums in this study were not proven to have either a direct or indirect effect on pharmaceutical inventory efficiency through inventory control.

Abstract

Increasing competition in the healthcare industry requires hospitals not only to attract new patients but also to maintain long-term relationships with existing patients by strengthening revisit intention. However, many healthcare institutions still face challenges in developing effective service strategies and technological innovations that can sustainably encourage patients to return for future healthcare services. This study aims to analyze the effects of service differentiation strategy and technology-based service innovation (TBSI) on patient revisit intention, with brand recognition serving as a mediating variable, at the outpatient clinic of Tzu Chi Hospital PIK. A quantitative research design was employed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to examine the relationships among variables. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to outpatients who had previous experience receiving healthcare services at the hospital. The analysis involved validity and reliability testing, descriptive analysis using the three-box method, and structural model evaluation to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings indicate that service differentiation strategy and technology-based service innovation positively and significantly influence patient revisit intention. Furthermore, brand recognition demonstrates a positive and significant effect on revisit intention and mediates the relationships between service differentiation strategy, technology-based service innovation, and revisit intention. These findings suggest that differentiated healthcare services and technology-enabled innovations are more effective in increasing patient revisit intention when they strengthen patients’ recognition and perceptions of hospital brands. This study concludes that strengthening brand recognition through service differentiation and technological innovation is essential for improving patient loyalty and sustaining competitive advantage in healthcare services.

Abstract

Medical personnel compliance in prescribing drugs according to the National Formulary (ForNas) is essential to ensure rational therapy, improve service quality, and enhance efficiency in health financing at government health facilities. However, compliance remains a challenge at Johar Baru Regional General Hospital, Central Jakarta. This study aimed to analyze factors influencing medical personnel compliance with ForNas-based prescribing, including drug availability, management policies, and the knowledge, attitudes, norms, and perceptions of medical staff.A qualitative approach was used through in-depth interviews with medical personnel, heads of supporting service sections, and pharmacy unit leaders. The study also involved observation and review of hospital formulary documents, minimum service standards reports for 2024, and monitoring and evaluation reports on prescribing compliance for 2024 and January June 2025. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis supported by NVivo software. The findings indicate that compliance is influenced by medical personnel’s understanding of ForNas policies, clinical experience, and professional attitudes toward prescribing standards. Management factors such as supervision, technological support, and procurement systems also play important roles. Limited drug stocks and suboptimal control systems were identified as major obstacles. The hospital is recommended to strengthen compliance by updating clinical practice guidelines, developing a ForNas-based hospital formulary, improving management support, optimizing information technology systems, ensuring drug availability, and proposing additional ForNas drugs to the Ministry of Health.
