Abstract

Government policies in the form of input subsidies have become an essential instrument for improving the performance of the agricultural sector and overcoming the limitations of resources owned by farmers. However, there are still questions about how effective this policy can be in boosting agricultural performance. This study aims to examine the impact of channeling input subsidies on agricultural productivity. Using the 2014 Agricultural Census microdata, 26,079 rice farm households were included in the analysis. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) is used to examine the impact of input subsidies on agricultural productivity represented by the productivity of rice farming. PSM was chosen because it can overcome the selection bias that could potentially arise in the analysis process. The analysis showed that the PSM model succeeded in reducing bias and confirmed that input subsidies had a significant effect on the productivity of rice farming. Thus, the input subsidy policy is an important and relevant instructor to improve the performance of the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Abstract

Community food barns (lumbung) are one of the local institutions established to maintain food security in rural areas. In line with this objective, several studies have been conducted to address concerns about the declining sustainability of traditional community food barns, which are vital for ensuring food security and preserving cultural heritage in rural areas. This indicates that there is an urgent need to strengthen local food systems and support rural development initiatives by assessing institutional factors influencing their sustainability. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the sustainability of community food barns and identify the dominant factors. Multidimensional Scaling analysis was used to measure sustainability and determine the dominant influential factors. The study population comprised 32 respondents from 32 groups of barns spread across the Special Region of Yogyakarta. A total of 3 dimensions were involved in the analysis, namely institutional, socio-cultural, and economic. The analysis results showed that the sustainability of community food barns was classified as the 'quo' criterion. This indicated that the current status of the sustainability of traditional barns could not develop naturally to a higher level without intervention. In addition, the dominant factors determining the level of sustainability were identified from the 3 dimensions. Strategies to improve sustainability could be pursued from various aspects. Based on the results, the current study showed that fostering farmer group activities and enhancing collaboration with various stakeholders were essential for sustaining traditional community food barns. These efforts strengthened institutional support, promoted knowledge sharing, and ensured collective resource management, ultimately contributing to rural development and agricultural resilience.

Abstract

Dekso Tourism Village in Kulon Progo Regency, during its five-year period after establishment, faces difficulties to maintain and develop its tourism busines. Internal problems of the management become an obstacle to the development of the village so that it can compete with other tourism villages and has an economic impact on the community. The tourism village development program is one form of community-based development implementation. The active role of the community itself is very important in the management process. Therefore, this community service program was carried out to help solving the village’s problems through three stages of implementation methods, namely the process of awareness, capacitating, and enrichment. Improved governance was carried out by reorganizing the new management based on established criteria and referring to the collegial collective principle. Reorganization also includes strengthening institutional cooperation with BUMDes as the parent company, POKDARWIS and other organizations involved in the tourism village. In addition, in order to strengthen the tourism village governance, the formation of a village regulation (PerKal) on tourism villages is also part of this service program. This legal umbrella will encourage cooperation between related parties to be more systematic, protect tourism village activities, as well as be the guidelines for future tourism development in Banjararum.
