Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs play a crucial role in sustainable development, particularly in local communities affected by corporate operations. This study explores the social and economic impacts of PT Pertamina’s Reforestation and Greening Program as part of its CSR initiatives. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research collects data through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the program provides social benefits, including increased environmental awareness, active community participation in conservation efforts, and improved quality of life due to a greener environment. From an economic perspective, the program contributes to job creation, increased income through ecotourism and environmentally based businesses, and more sustainable local economic growth. However, challenges remain regarding funding sustainability, long-term community engagement, and risk mitigation of environmental degradation. Therefore, this study recommends a more sustainable CSR model, emphasizing collaboration between companies, the government, and local communities to ensure long-term benefits. These findings contribute to academic discussions and CSR practices, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability and economic empowerment of local communities.

Abstract

According to research published in the Journal of Applied Phycology, algae have the ability to produce biofuels with five times higher energy efficiency compared to soybean plants, making it a highly efficient and sustainable option for renewable fuels. The goal of this research is to use biotechnology to create biofuels from algae as a renewable energy. This study used a laboratory experimental design with a quantitative approach. Population: Microalgae or green algae that have high potential in lipid production, such as Chlorella vulgaris or Spirulina platensis, which are commonly used in biofuel research. Sample: Several species of algae were selected to test their effectiveness as biofuels, including genetically engineered species and natural species as a comparison. The results of the ANOVA analysis showed significant differences in lipid levels between treatment groups. The results of the T/Post-hoc test confirmed that the genetically engineered species had higher lipid levels, supporting the efficiency of biofuels. The regression results showed a strong positive correlation (R² = 0.68), which supports other studies that found that microalgae can produce biomass in a relatively short time with a controlled environment, making it efficient for large-scale biofuel production. The conversion efficiency of lipids to biofuels reached 85.5%, indicating that the transesterification method used in this study is very effective in converting algae lipids to biodiesel. The use of biotechnology in the production of biofuels from algae has great potential as an efficient and sustainable renewable energy source.

Abstract

This community service program on the socialization of coal quality and environmental mitigation efforts was conducted to enhance green energy literacy and strengthen local capacity in addressing energy and environmental challenges. Indonesia remains heavily dependent on coal as its primary energy source, yet the low quality of domestic coal, characterized by high sulfur, ash, and moisture content, contributes significantly to carbon emissions, air pollution, and solid waste residues. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with participatory action research (PAR), actively involving the community in problem identification, planning, implementation, and reflection. The results revealed an increase in public knowledge regarding the relationship between coal quality and environmental impacts, alongside the emergence of collective awareness to propose relevant mitigation measures. Furthermore, the program emphasized the importance of adopting coal upgrading technology as a technical solution to reduce sulfur content and enhance calorific value, thereby improving combustion efficiency and reducing environmental burdens. The integration of scientific analysis, energy policy, and community participation positions this program as a strategic model of community service that supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
