Abstract

Adolescent pregnancy remains a global health concern, necessitating effective educational interventions to improve maternal and child health outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of pregnancy health counseling programs for adolescents within school settings through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA framework. A total of 239 articles were retrieved from databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, SINTA, GARUDA, Crossref, and ICI. After a rigorous selection process based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 25 articles were deemed eligible for in-depth analysis. The findings indicate that school-based pregnancy counseling programs significantly enhance adolescents’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding maternal health. Various counseling methods, including face-to-face sessions, group discussions, and digital interventions, contribute to program effectiveness. However, challenges such as limited resources, social stigma, and accessibility barriers hinder program implementation. This study underscores the importance of integrating pregnancy health education into school curricula, leveraging technology for broader reach, and fostering collaboration between schools, healthcare professionals, and families. Future research should explore long-term impacts and the role of cultural factors in shaping program outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between stress levels and heart health among the elderly using a quantitative cross-sectional approach. The research involved 323 elderly participants aged 60 years and above, selected through proportional random sampling to ensure population representation. Data collection included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to measure stress levels and clinical tests such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and electrocardiograms (ECG) to assess heart health. Additional information on demographics and lifestyle factors was gathered through questionnaires. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to assess the distribution of stress levels and heart health conditions, as well as correlation tests (Pearson or Spearman) to examine the relationship between stress and heart health. Linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the effect of stress on heart health, considering control variables such as age, gender, and lifestyle factors. The study adheres to ethical research standards, ensuring informed consent and confidentiality of participant data. The findings highlight a significant relationship between high stress levels and poor heart health among the elderly, emphasizing the need for effective stress management interventions to improve cardiovascular outcomes in this population.

Abstract

The National Health Insurance (JKN) program, managed by BPJS Kesehatan, has been a pivotal initiative in Indonesia’s healthcare reform since its launch in 2014. With a membership coverage of 98.67% as of September 2024, the program has demonstrated remarkable progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). While previous studies have predominantly focused on financing, patient satisfaction, and the quality of medical services, this research highlights the often-overlooked aspect of health administration management. Effective and integrated administrative processes are essential to ensuring service delivery, claims processing, data management, and overall system accountability. However, the JKN program continues to face challenges such as administrative inefficiencies, overlapping data, lengthy procedures, and limited participant understanding. This study conducts a qualitative evaluation of administrative management in Makassar City a major urban center with a high JKN participation rate and a complex healthcare system. By analyzing the experiences of healthcare providers, administrative personnel, and JKN members, the study identifies key administrative strengths and systemic bottlenecks. Findings from this research aim to inform policy recommendations for improving administrative efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness, thereby strengthening the sustainability and equity of Indonesia’s national health insurance system.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between sleep quality and the immune system in adults. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while immune function was evaluated through levels of inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-6 and CRP) and the frequency of infections in the past three months. The results showed that the majority of respondents had poor to moderate sleep quality, which was associated with increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines and a higher frequency of infections. A decline in sleep quality was significantly correlated with a decrease in immune resistance, indicating that poor sleep can disrupt the body's defense mechanisms. Psychosocial factors such as stress were also found to worsen both sleep quality and immune function. These findings highlight the importance of sleep quality in maintaining a healthy immune system, with implications for the development of lifestyle-based interventions to improve sleep quality and immune resilience. This study opens opportunities for further in-depth research on the causal mechanisms between sleep and immunity.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical phase that demands careful attention to maternal health and well-being. However, the use of medication during pregnancy remains a controversial issue, often accompanied by confusion and fear. This study aims to explore pregnant women’s perceptions of drug use, assess their level of knowledge regarding drug safety, and examine the implications of these perceptions for maternal and fetal health. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed with 120 pregnant women as respondents, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. The results revealed that 68.3% of respondents had negative perceptions of drug use during pregnancy, and 52.5% had low knowledge about medication safety. A significant relationship was found between perception and adherence to prescribed medication (p = 0.004). The findings highlight the urgent need for improved health education and counseling to ensure the safe and effective use of medication during pregnancy. Strengthening the role of healthcare providers in delivering accurate information can reduce unnecessary risks to both mothers and their unborn children.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of reproductive health counseling in improving knowledge, attitudes, and health outcomes among pregnant adolescents, as well as its role in preventing high-risk pregnancies. A quasi-experimental design was used with two groups: an experimental group receiving structured counseling sessions and a control group receiving standard care. Data were collected through pretest and posttest questionnaires assessing reproductive health knowledge and attitudes, along with medical indicators such as maternal hemoglobin levels, blood pressure, and neonatal birth weight. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge and positive changes in attitudes among participants in the counseling group compared to the control group. Furthermore, health outcomes such as reduced incidence of anemia and low birth weight were more favorable in the experimental group. These findings indicate that reproductive health counseling is an effective intervention for reducing pregnancy risks and promoting maternal and child health. The study supports integrating adolescent-focused counseling into primary healthcare services to address the unique challenges faced by pregnant teenagers and to improve overall reproductive health outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed daily life, increasing the time individuals spend interacting with digital devices, known as screen time. This study investigates the impact of screen time duration on cognitive functions, focusing on memory, attention, and executive function. Using a quantitative explanatory research design, data were collected from 150 participants aged 15 to 40 through standardized cognitive assessments and self-reported questionnaires measuring screen time, sleep quality, physical activity, and digital content type. The results indicate a significant negative relationship between prolonged screen time and cognitive performance, moderated by factors such as sleep quality and age. Passive digital consumption was more strongly associated with cognitive decline compared to active, educational use. These findings highlight the importance of managing screen time to preserve cognitive health and inform strategies for healthier digital habits. This research contributes to the understanding of digitalization’s neuropsychological effects and supports the development of guidelines for balanced technology use.

Abstract

This study presents a systematic literature review exploring the multifaceted role of midwives in enhancing exclusive breastfeeding practices. Drawing from 64 peer-reviewed sources, the research highlights how midwives transcend clinical responsibilities to become pivotal agents of education, emotional support, and community mobilisation. Key findings reveal that midwifery-led education significantly boosts maternal knowledge and awareness, while psychological counselling increases mothers’ confidence and perseverance in breastfeeding. Additionally, midwives play a crucial role in addressing physical and technical challenges that often hinder breastfeeding continuation. Their involvement in community empowerment initiatives and their interpersonal communication skills further amplify their impact, fostering environments that support sustained breastfeeding practices. However, systemic limitations such as inadequate training, workforce shortages, and lack of policy reinforcement frequently obstruct midwives from delivering optimal support. These insights underscore the urgent need for structural reforms that empower midwives with the tools, training, and institutional backing required to effectively promote exclusive breastfeeding. Overall, the study reinforces the critical and multi-dimensional role of midwives as both health practitioners and change agents in maternal and child health strategies.
