Abstract

Urgensi penelitian ini didasari oleh kenyataan bahwa di tengah arus modernisasi dan digitalisasi pendidikan, warisan literasi lokal seperti Arab Melayu mulai terpinggirkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pembelajaran baca tulis Arab Melayu terhadap pemahaman konsep agama pada siswa madrasah modern di Kabupaten Rokan Hulu. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan analisis dokumen pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam membaca dan menulis aksara Arab Melayu berdampak signifikan terhadap peningkatan pemahaman mereka terhadap materi keagamaan, khususnya dalam aspek tauhid, fiqih dasar, dan akhlak. Sebanyak 72% siswa menunjukkan kemampuan membaca yang baik, sementara 68% memiliki kemampuan menulis yang baik. Pemahaman terhadap konsep agama juga meningkat, dengan 65% siswa menunjukkan pemahaman tinggi terhadap tauhid, dan 60% terhadap fiqih dasar. Selain itu, keterikatan emosional siswa terhadap teks Arab Melayu mencapai 75%, menunjukkan bahwa literasi tradisional ini turut memperkuat dimensi afektif dan kultural dalam proses pembelajaran. Temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa pembelajaran baca tulis Arab Melayu tidak hanya meningkatkan kemampuan literasi, tetapi juga menjadi jembatan penting dalam internalisasi nilai-nilai keagamaan yang kontekstual dan bermakna. Oleh karena itu, pembelajaran ini relevan untuk terus dikembangkan dalam pendidikan Islam berbasis kearifan lokal.

Abstract

Urgensi dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh Sastra Arab Melayu terhadap pengembangan kurikulum Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) di kalangan mahasiswa PAI UIN Kabupaten Pidie. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran Sastra Arab Melayu dalam pengembangan kurikulum Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI), khususnya di lingkungan mahasiswa UIN Kabupaten Pidie. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengintegrasian Sastra Arab Melayu dalam kurikulum PAI mampu meningkatkan ketertarikan mahasiswa terhadap materi pembelajaran karena sastra tersebut menyampaikan nilai-nilai keislaman secara menarik dan kontekstual. Selain itu, sastra ini memperkuat pemahaman nilai-nilai keislaman yang relevan dengan budaya lokal masyarakat Melayu di Pidie, memperkaya sumber belajar, serta menawarkan metode pengajaran yang lebih variatif dan interaktif. Sastra Arab Melayu juga turut meningkatkan kesadaran mahasiswa terhadap budaya dan identitas keislaman lokal, sehingga mereka lebih bangga dan termotivasi untuk melestarikan tradisi Islam Melayu di tengah arus globalisasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Sastra Arab Melayu memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap pengembangan kurikulum PAI karena mendorong pembelajaran yang lebih bermakna, kontekstual, dan berbasis budaya lokal. Pemanfaatan sastra ini juga membantu mahasiswa dalam membentuk pemahaman agama yang holistik, yang penting dalam menghadapi tantangan zaman.

Abstract

Urgensi penelitian ini terletak pada pentingnya pelestarian dan revitalisasi aksara Arab Melayu sebagai warisan literasi Islam yang mulai terpinggirkan, khususnya di kalangan generasi muda dan mahasiswa di Aceh. Tujuan penelitian penelitian ini yaitu untuk memahami peran komunitas Arab Melayu dalam mendukung pengembangan studi Agama Islam di kalangan mahasiswa UIN Ar-Raniry Kota Banda Aceh. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu dengan Pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif digunakan untuk menggali secara mendalam kontribusi sosial dan keagamaan komunitas tersebut dalam lingkungan kampus. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan dokumentasi, dengan teknik purposive sampling untuk memilih informan yang relevan. Analisis tematik dan triangulasi data diterapkan untuk memastikan validitas dan konsistensi temuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komunitas Arab Melayu berperan aktif melalui kegiatan keagamaan, pembinaan spiritual oleh tokoh komunitas, serta pewarisan nilai-nilai tradisional Islam yang memperkuat karakter dan wawasan keislaman mahasiswa. Selain itu, komunitas ini juga berperan sebagai sumber dukungan sosial dan fasilitas pembelajaran yang membantu mahasiswa dalam menjalani kehidupan akademik dan keagamaan. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya peran komunitas dalam mengembangkan studi agama Islam secara inklusif dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in preserving the cultural heritage and identity of Aceh Besar through the Arabic-Malay language. Language is an integral part of a society's culture and identity. In Aceh Besar, the fusion of Arabic and Malay has created a distinctive pattern in communication, literature, and religious practices. This research aims to examine the role of the Arabic-Malay language in preserving the cultural heritage and identity of the Aceh Besar community. The Arabic-Malay language functions not only as a means of daily communication but also as an essential medium for transmitting cultural and religious values deeply embedded in the local way of life. Traditional educational institutions such as dayah play a crucial role in passing on the use of Arabic-Malay to younger generations through the teaching of kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts) and oral tradition practices. Moreover, classical Arabic-Malay manuscripts preserved in Aceh Besar serve as a rich intellectual heritage, containing religious teachings, customary laws, and historical records that strengthen the local cultural identity. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and literature review. Data analysis is conducted qualitatively through data reduction, presentation, and verification processes to gain an in-depth understanding of the function of the Arabic-Malay language in preserving culture and identity. The findings indicate that the Arabic-Malay language serves as a main pillar in maintaining the continuity of cultural values and Islamic identity in Aceh Besar. Therefore, the preservation of this language is vital in sustaining an authentic and enduring local cultural heritage.

Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in addressing the challenge of preserving the Arab-Malay script amid the declining interest of younger generations in learning it, particularly at the elementary education level. This study aims to identify the teaching strategies used by teachers in teaching Arab-Malay literacy at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Central Aceh Regency, as well as to examine the obstacles faced, the creativity of the teachers, and the role of cultural environment in the learning process. The subjects of this study include teachers who teach Arab-Malay or similar local content subjects, as well as students in grades IV to VI at several Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in the region. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that teachers implement various innovative strategies, such as the use of visual media, learning through play methods, and the integration of local cultural values to enhance students' interest and understanding of the Arab-Malay script. However, the learning process also encounters challenges, including limited teaching materials, lack of teacher training, and low student motivation. Moreover, support from families and the local community significantly influences the success of the learning process. In conclusion, teacher creativity and synergy between school, family, and local culture are key factors in supporting the effective and sustainable teaching of Arab-Malay literacy.

Abstract

The urgency of this research lies in examining the role of Jawi script as a modified Arabic script used to write the Malay language, as well as its contribution to the spread of Islam and the formation of Arab-Malay cultural identity in the Nusantara. This study aims to describe the contribution of Jawi script in preserving the cultural values and traditions of the Malay community. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques include library research and digital documentation. The researcher applies source triangulation to ensure data validity. Data analysis is carried out using content analysis methods. The results show that Jawi script is not only a means of communication and Islamic propagation, but also a cultural heritage that records the intellectual and spiritual legacy of past societies. Although its usage has declined in recent times, various preservation efforts such as manuscript digitization and Jawi instruction in educational institutions are being promoted. The preservation of Jawi script is a strategic step in safeguarding the Arab-Malay cultural identity and heritage amidst the current of modernization.

Abstract

The teaching of Arabic-Malay literacy at the Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) level plays a strategic role in preserving the Islamic Nusantara literary heritage and in developing students’ linguistic and cultural competencies. This study aims to identify effective instructional strategies to improve Arabic-Malay literacy skills through a literature review of recent scholarly sources. The method used is a library research approach, analyzing journal articles, books, and relevant research reports published between 2017 and 2024. Findings indicate that the success of Arabic-Malay instruction is influenced by teacher competence, the use of contextual learning media, supportive learning environments, and students' linguistic and cultural backgrounds. These results highlight the importance of adopting integrative and adaptive teaching strategies aligned with local contexts and learner characteristics. This study recommends strengthening teacher training, digitizing manuscripts, and providing innovative teaching media as strategic efforts to enhance Arabic-Malay literacy education in MTs.

Abstract

Urgensi penelitian ini terletak pada pentingnya pengembangan literasi dini yang tidak hanya efektif secara kognitif, tetapi juga kontekstual secara budaya dan spiritual, khususnya bagi anak usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui adalah Bagaimana peran pembelajaran Bahasa Arab Melayu dalam membentuk fondasi literasi pada anak usia dini Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari tiga kelompok utama yaitu: (1) guru kelas dan guru agama (2) orang tua/wali murid (3) anak usia 4–6 tahun. Analisis data dilakukan secara bertahap melalui tahapan reduksi data, kategorisasi tematik, penyajian dalam bentuk matriks naratif, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran Bahasa Arab Melayu berkontribusi signifikan terhadap perkembangan literasi dini, khususnya dalam pengenalan aksara Jawi, peningkatan kesadaran fonologis, dan membangun minat membaca serta menulis pada anak usia dini. Melalui pendekatan kontekstual seperti permainan dan nyanyian, proses pembelajaran menjadi lebih menyenangkan dan bermakna. Temuan ini juga menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 70% anak mampu mengenali minimal 10 huruf Arab Melayu dalam waktu relatif singkat, disertai partisipasi aktif orang tua yang memperkuat efektivitas pembelajaran. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi penting dalam pengembangan literasi berbasis budaya lokal serta penguatan nilai religius sejak dini.

Abstract

The urgency of this study is to analyze the internalization of reading and writing skills in the Jawi script (Arab-Malay script) within the learning process of elementary school students at SD Negeri 1 Banda Aceh. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that integrating the Arab-Malay script into culturally based learning significantly enhances students’ motivation and comprehension. Interactive learning methods, such as the use of digital applications and the Imla’ (dictation) technique, have proven effective in facilitating students’ gradual internalization of the script. Furthermore, the teacher’s role as a facilitator, along with a culturally responsive curriculum, greatly contributes to the success of the learning process. The study also highlights that combining the Jawi script with other subjects, such as the Indonesian Language and Islamic Religious Education, improves literacy skills while reinforcing students’ cultural and religious identities. However, several challenges remain, including limited instructional time and a lack of engaging learning media. These obstacles indicate the need for more innovative and integrated strategies to optimize the teaching of the Arab-Malay script in elementary education. The results of this study contribute to the development of culturally responsive education and the preservation of local linguistic heritage. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term impact of Jawi script learning on students’ academic achievement and cultural identity development.

Abstract

This study explores the historical significance of the Arabic-Malay script (Jawi) in shaping local literacy traditions and cultural identity in the Malay-speaking regions of Southeast Asia. The research aims to trace the development of Arabic-Malay writing and its relationship with Islamic scholarly transmission, customary law, and indigenous literature. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, the study analyzes historical documents, educational practices, and cultural artifacts related to the use of the script. Findings reveal that the Arabic-Malay script played a central role in disseminating Islamic knowledge, documenting local wisdom, and preserving oral traditions in written form. It served as a bridge between religious and secular spheres, fostering a literate society rooted in local values. The study concludes that the preservation and revitalization of Arabic-Malay writing are essential for sustaining cultural heritage and identity, particularly amid modern educational challenges and the decline of traditional literacy forms. Efforts such as integrating the script into school curricula, digital archiving, and community-based education are key to its survival.
