Abstract

The integration of Augmented Reality (AR) in vocational and mechanical engineering education has become increasingly important in the era of Industry 4.0, where digital competence and practical skills are essential. This systematic literature review aims to identify research trends, methodologies, learning contexts, and challenges related to the use of AR in vocational mechanical engineering education. Guided by the PRISMA framework, a total of 13 empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025 were collected from Scopus and ScienceDirect databases and analysed based on research design, learning topics, and educational outcomes. The findings reveal that most studies employed quasi-experimental and R&D approaches, integrating AR into subjects such as mechanical systems, thermodynamics, structural analysis, CNC machining, and engineering drawing. Across these studies, AR consistently improved learning achievement, spatial reasoning, motivation, and engagement. However, common challenges included hardware limitations, model precision issues, usability constraints, and a lack of teacher readiness. These results highlight AR’s strong potential to enhance technical learning experiences and bridge the gap between theoretical and practical understanding in vocational engineering education.

Abstract

The development of augmented reality (AR) as a digital learning technology offers significant potential to enhance the quality of education, particularly in skills-based learning. However, the utilization of AR in vocational education has not yet been optimally integrated into pedagogical approaches. This study aims to analyze and explore the direction of development, thematic focus, and research dynamics of AR in vocational education through a bibliometric approach. Data were obtained from reputable scientific publications and analyzed using supporting software to identify research trends, academic contributions, dominant fields of study, and relationships among key terms. The results indicate a growing scholarly interest in AR within vocational education alongside advances in digital technology. Existing studies remain largely dominated by technical perspectives, while research addressing the pedagogical integration of AR in vocational learning contexts is still limited. Thematic patterns reveal two main tendencies: the development of AR technologies and applications, and their use in learning processes and learner engagement. In conclusion, this study emphasizes that the advancement of AR in vocational education requires stronger, more contextual, and sustainable pedagogical integration. The findings imply the need for the development of immersive AR-based learning models that are skills-oriented and aligned with the demands of the modern industrial and professional landscape.

Abstract

In the era of educational digital transformation, enhancing teachers' digital competence has become a critical challenge. This study investigates the effectiveness of Google Workspace for Education training in improving the digital competence of teachers at SMA Negeri 11 Padang, a school preparing to become a Google Reference School. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, involving 40 teachers as respondents through a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and linearity tests, and Pearson correlation. The results reveal a strong positive correlation (r = 0.891, p < 0.001) between the training and teachers’ digital competence, indicating that the training significantly improves their ability to utilize digital tools for teaching, collaboration, and classroom management. Furthermore, the training content, methods, and teacher engagement were found to play critical roles in shaping effective outcomes. These findings support the notion that structured and pedagogically aligned training is essential for equipping educators with relevant digital skills. It is concluded that Google Workspace training serves as an effective strategic intervention for advancing digital teaching competence in secondary education
