Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the transition from linear to circular municipal solid waste management in Sukabumi City using a system dynamics approach. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive design, data were gathered through surveys of 400 residents across 33 villages, field observations of waste facilities, and stakeholder interviews. Results reveal significant "lost circularity" driven by low source separation, negative public perceptions, and the underutilization of community-based 3R facilities (TPS3R) and waste banks. The developed Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) identifies five reinforcing loops which are centred on 3R participation, institutional collaboration, and material value—and four balancing loops related to infrastructure limits, behavioural resistance, and funding constraints. The dominance of these balancing loops explains the stagnation of the circular transition. Findings suggest that the system remains trapped in a "take–make–dispose" model due to operational bottlenecks. The study concludes that the primary leverage points for accelerating circularity include intensive 3R education, the reactivation of upstream infrastructure, and enhanced multi-actor collaboration. These interventions are essential to shift the system dynamics toward sustainable resource recovery and reduced landfill dependency.

Abstract

In project construction, cost, quality, and time are key factors that must be optimally managed to ensure the project runs according to plan. One of the common problems encountered in construction projects is the existence of unnecessary costs resulting from inefficient design or material selection. To address this issue, the Value Engineering method can be applied to obtain more economical alternatives without reducing the function and quality of the building. This study aims to analyze wall construction alternatives using the Zero-One method and to determine the cost efficiency achieved through the implementation of Value Engineering in the Construction Project of Supporting Laboratory Facilities for the Vocational School Area. This research employed a quantitative approach using project planning data as the object of analysis. The analysis was conducted by applying the Value Engineering job plan, which consisted of the information phase using Pareto analysis, the function analysis phase using the cost/worth method, the creative phase, the evaluation phase through advantages and disadvantages analysis, the development phase using the Zero-One method, and the recommendation phase. The object of the study was wall construction work, which had significant potential for cost optimization. The results showed that among the six alternatives evaluated, Alternative A2, consisting of a combination of partition walls and 10 cm thick lightweight brick walls, was selected as the best alternative with the highest weight score of 27.11% based on the Zero-One method. The cost of wall construction work using this alternative was IDR 183,032,887.20, which was lower than the existing cost of IDR 196,533,121.75. The implementation of this alternative resulted in a cost saving of IDR 13,500,234.55 or 6.87% of the total wall construction cost.

Abstract

Construction projects require effective time management to minimize delays that can lead to increased costs and project completion delays. This study aims to analyze the time and cost evaluation of a two-story residential construction project using the Precedence Diagram Method (PDM) and Crashing to identify the critical path and determine the most efficient acceleration alternatives. This study uses the PDM method to construct a work network, identify the critical path, and calculate the project duration through forward pass, backward pass, and total float analyses. Subsequently, the Crashing method is applied by adding labor and overtime hours to evaluate time acceleration and changes in project costs. The analysis results show that the normal project duration is 37 weeks with the critical path A–B–C–D–E–F–H–I–M. Applying the Crashing method by increasing the workforce by 15% or adding overtime hours can accelerate the project duration to 33 weeks. However, the overtime option is more efficient because it achieves the same acceleration with a lower cost increase compared to increasing the workforce. Thus, the PDM method is effective in identifying the critical path, while the Crashing method using overtime is the most optimal acceleration alternative based on time and cost considerations.
