Abstract

Traditional games have great potential in developing children's social skills. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of the Gobaskill game (Gobak Sodor Berpasangan for Social Skill) in improving the social skills of 7-year-old children. The research method used a quasi-experimental method, two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 40 students of grade 2 of SDN 16 Tarok Dipo where there were experimental groups and control groups. The experimental group participated in the Gobaskill game, while the control group was not given any treatment. The results of the analysis obtained showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in social skills compared to the control group, as evidenced by the average N-Gain Score of 64.73% (quite effective) and the results of the independent sample t-test with a significance of 0.000 <0.05. Meanwhile, the control group only obtained an average N-Gain Score of 24.80% (ineffective). These findings support that Gobaskill can be used as a fun and educational intervention to improve children's social skills effectively. Therefore, traditional games such as Gobaskill are suggested to be implemented in elementary education environments as one of the direct and interactive experience-based learning strategies.
