Abstract

Taekwondo is a martial arts sport that emphasizes the use of hands and feet. Important aspects include technique, tactics, physicality, strategy, and mentality, with a focus on psychology. Psychology in taekwondo includes motivation and anxiety management. Effective stress management is essential during athletes' preparation for competition. Athletes with high levels of motivation tend to employ more effective coping strategies and perceive stress more positively. Coaches and support teams play an important role in supporting athlete motivation, requiring a holistic approach to stress control and performance enchancement. Mental skill help athletes process psychological stress. This study used a descriptive research method with a cross sectional approach, conducted over one month. The subjects were 45 taekwondo athletes aged 20–25 years with at least five years of training experience and active at the provincial level. Results showed that most athletes demonstrated high levels of stress control, motivation, and mental skills, with 59% in the “agree” and 16% in the “strongly agree” category, indicating good psychological readiness though some variations remained. Overall, the study concludes that taekwondo athletes possess a positive psychological profile that supports performance, and the CPRD instrument is effective for evaluating and planning psychological interventions.

Abstract

To improve the quality of young athletes' development, the government, through the 2025 National Talented Athlete Development Center program, provides a regular training system complemented by routine monitoring and evaluation activities. Monitoring and evaluation are conducted to determine the success of the training program, observe athletes' progress, and serve as a reference for making decisions to improve the development program. Regular assessments help coaches and program managers identify progress or weaknesses in training activities. Physical condition testing using standardized tests is an important way to evaluate the success of a training program. Comparing assessment results between different stages provides a clear picture of an athlete's physical progress over time. By analyzing quantitative data descriptively, this progress can be presented as percentages and score categories, facilitating a clear understanding of program achievements. This study aims to analyze the physical development of athletes in the 2025 National Talented Athlete Development Center program based on the results of Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) Phase 1 and Phase 2. The study uses a qualitative library research approach. The research sample consisted of 342 athletes who took physical tests in both evaluation phases. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages and distribution of score categories. The results show an increase in the average physical condition from 77% (adequate category) in Phase 1 to 80% (good category) in Phase 2. The proportion of athletes with scores <70% decreased from 23% to 12%. These findings indicate an increase in the effectiveness of physical training over a four-month period.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationships between physical activity and self-confidence with gross motor skills among elementary school students living in highland and lowland areas of Central Java, Indonesia. A descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The participants were 80 students in Grades 4–6 (40 from highland schools and 40 from lowland schools). Physical activity was measured using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Children (PAQ-C), self-confidence using a scale adapted from Lauster, and gross motor skills using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2). Data met the assumptions of normality, linearity, and homoscedasticity. Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted separately for highland and lowland groups. The results showed that physical activity correlated positively and significantly with gross motor skills in both highland (r = 0.488, p = 0.001) and lowland (r = 0.518, p = 0.001) groups. Self-confidence also demonstrated a positive and significant correlation with gross motor skills in both regions (r = 0.410 and r = 0.408, p = 0.009). Regression analyses indicated that physical activity and self-confidence together explained 32.9% of the variance in gross motor skills in the highland group and 36.3% in the lowland group, with physical activity emerging as the stronger predictor. These findings suggest that both behavioural and psychological factors jointly support children’s gross motor development, and that physical education programs should simultaneously promote active lifestyles and self-confidence, tailored to the specific characteristics of highland and lowland environments.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of plyometric exercises, specifically jump to box and depth jump, and leg muscle strength on 50-metre breaststroke speed in students participating in extracurricular swimming at SMK Bina Bangsa Kersana, Brebes Regency. Using a quantitative experimental approach with a 2x2 factorial design, the study involved students undergoing plyometric training for four weeks, three sessions per week. The dependent variable was 50-metre breaststroke speed, and leg muscle strength was considered an attribute variable. The results indicated that both jump to box and depth jump exercises significantly increased swimming speed (F=215.207; p<0.05). Leg muscle strength also had a significant impact (F=51.909; p<0.05), with students possessing higher leg strength achieving faster swimming times. Furthermore, a significant interaction was observed between the type of plyometric exercise and leg muscle strength (F=8.206; p<0.05), suggesting that exercise effectiveness depends on the student’s leg strength. Overall, jump to box training was more effective than depth jump, and students with high leg strength showed the greatest improvement. These findings confirm that structured plyometric training, particularly jump to box exercises, combined with sufficient leg muscle strength, can optimize 50-metre breaststroke performance, making it a recommended approach for enhancing swimming speed in adolescent athletes.
