Abstract

Physical condition is one of the requirements needed in the effort to improve athletes' performance, and it can even be considered a basic necessity that cannot be postponed or negotiated. An athlete's physical condition is very important to achieve maximum performance. This study aims to analyze the general physical condition of karate athletes from West Java. The method of this research is a quantitative descriptive study with a typical descriptive design. The population in this study consists of 20 karate athletes from West Java aged 17-21 years. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The data collection technique uses a test instrument, which consists of 9 test items, namely the Sit and Reach Test, 20 M Sprint, Side Step Test, Medicine Ball Test, Vertical Jump Test, Push Up Test, Sit Up Test, Back Up Test, and Bleep Test. The data results using descriptive analysis with percentages based on categorization norms. The research shows that the physical condition of West Java karate athletes overall falls into the medium category, which is 81%, thus it can be concluded that the physical condition of West Java karate athletes is moderate. This research can serve as a guideline in evaluating the effectiveness of the training programs that have been implemented, allowing trainers to make improvements or adjustments to training programs in a more targeted manner.

Abstract

Dayatahan VO2Max adalah salah satu komponen fisik dari keempat komponen lainnya yang menjadi penunjang dalam Olahraga, dalam cabang olahraga tarung derajat VO2Max dibutuhkan untuk menunjang kebutuhan kemampuan pada saat melaksanakan gerakan menyerang, bertahan, maupun berpindah arah. Salah satu yang menarik adalah metode Circuit Training, metode ini efektif karena dapat menggabungkan berbagai macam bentuk latihan dalam satu metode. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari metode latihan modifikasi Circuit Training terhadap peningkatan VO2Max atlet tarung derajat  dengan menggunakan 8 orang sampel penelitian yang berusia 15-17 tahun, yang merupakan anggota ekstrakurikuler SMA Negeri 1 Cileunyi. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah Beep test. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa Circuit Training memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan VO2Max dengan rata-rata peningkatan 7%. Peningkatan tertinggi yang dihasilkan adalah 10 % dan yang paling rendah adalah 4%.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of flexibility training using proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation on increasing the flexibility and accuracy of karate athletes' mawashi kicks. To determine the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation flexibility training on increasing the flexibility and accuracy of karate athletes' mawashi kicks, related to the data obtained by the author, it was measured using a side split instrument and point target with a total of 10 athletes to measure the level of flexibility and kick points obtained by athletes. The methods used in this study are to test statistical data, normality tests, and Paired Sampled T-Test. After testing the Pre-Test and Post-Test values, the results of the study showed that the sig value for Side Split was at 0.000 while the sig value for Point Target was at 0.027. From both sig results, it was concluded that the sig value. both were below 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of flexibility training using PNF on increasing the flexibility and accuracy of mawashi kicks.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of leg muscle power and VO2Max on the performance of karate athletes. Leg muscle power is essential for explosive actions such as kicking and rapid positional shifts, while VO2Max reflects maximal aerobic capacity that supports endurance during matches. A quantitative descriptive method was employed through surveys and competition observations. The sample comprised six West Java Pelatda karate athletes who had competed at the national level. Instruments included the Multi-Stage Fitness Test (Beep Test) to measure VO2Max, a Force Plate to assess leg muscle power, and a match observation rubric based on the 2024 WKF regulations. Results showed that three athletes achieved VO2Max in the “excellent” category, while two athletes demonstrated leg muscle power in the “excellent” category. However, simple linear regression analysis revealed no significant effect of either VO2Max or leg muscle power on performance, with significance values greater than 0.05. The findings suggest that karate performance is not determined solely by physical conditions but is also shaped by strategy, technique, and mental readiness. Coaches are therefore encouraged to develop more comprehensive training programs that integrate physical, technical, and psychological components.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the pyramid system training method on upper body climbing endurance in bouldering athletes. The need for upper body strength endurance is a crucial component of bouldering performance because climbing activities require intense and repeated isometric and dynamic contractions. This study used a one-group pretest–posttest experimental design involving ten members of the PAMOR FPOK UPI rock climbing division as research subjects. The instrument used to measure strength endurance was the bent arm hang test, which has high validity and reliability in measuring isometric abilities relevant to climbing performance. The treatment in the form of pyramid system training was given for sixteen sessions with progressive load variations focused on the upper body muscles. Data were analyzed using descriptive tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and paired sample t-tests. The results showed a significant increase between pretest and posttest scores, as evidenced by a mean improvement of 2.44 seconds in the bent arm hang test (pretest: 23.32 ± 14.00 s; posttest: 25.76 ± 13.45 s), with the paired sample t-test indicating a statistically significant difference (t = −10.584, p < 0.001), thus it can be concluded that the pyramid system training method is effective in improving upper body climbing endurance in bouldering athletes. These findings indicate that training with gradual loads can be used as an alternative training program relevant to the physiological demands of rock climbing, especially bouldering.
