Abstract

Overweight is a global health problem that also affects female university students. This condition may be influenced by hydration status and physical activity. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between these factors and the incidence of overweight among female students at Immanuel Health Institute. A case-control design was applied, involving 92 respondents, comprising 42 overweight individuals and 46 with normal nutritional status. Hydration status was assessed using the PURI (Self-Check Urine) test, physical activity was evaluated with the short version of the IPAQ questionnaire, and nutritional status was determined by calculating BMI. Most overweight respondents were aged 20–25 years (76.1%), underhydrated (80.4%), and had low physical activity levels (67.4%). Chi-square analysis showed a significant association between hydration status (p=0.000; OR=9.397) and physical activity (p=0.000; OR=21.700) with overweight. In conclusion, hydration status and physical activity are significantly associated with overweight. It is recommended that students maintain adequate fluid intake and engage in regular physical activity. Keywords : Overweight, Hydration Status, Physical Activity, Female Students

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis have a high risk of anemia due to decreased hemoglobin levels, one of which is caused by inadequate protein intake and tannin consumption that inhibits iron absorption. This study aims to determine the relationship between protein intake and tannin consumption with hemoglobin levels in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis at Santo Yusup Hospital, Bandung. The study design was cross-sectional and involved 86 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique. The variables studied included protein intake, tannin consumption, and hemoglobin levels. Data were collected using a Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ) questionnaire and medical records, and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that 50% of respondents had insufficient protein intake, 31.4% consumed tannins frequently, and 56.9% had low hemoglobin levels. The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between protein intake and hemoglobin levels (p=0.000), as well as between tannin consumption and hemoglobin levels (p=0.017). Patients with low protein intake and high tannin consumption are at higher risk of low hemoglobin levels. Appropriate nutritional interventions are needed to improve hemoglobin levels in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. Abstract

Abstract

Wheat flour-based noodles have a high glycemic index and low fiber content, making them less suitable for individuals with diabetes. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding sacha inchi oil and butterfly pea extract on the omega-3 and antioxidant content of mocaf-based noodles. The research was conducted experimentally with three formulations: F1 (93% mocaf flour, 2% sacha inchi oil, and 5% butterfly pea extract), F2 (87% mocaf flour, 3% sacha inchi oil, and 10% butterfly pea extract), and F3 (81% mocaf flour, 4% sacha inchi oil, and 15% butterfly pea extract). Analyses included proximate tests, omega-3 levels, antioxidant activity, and organoleptic evaluations. Organoleptic data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test to determine significant differences between formulations. Univariate results showed a significant increase in omega-3 content in F1 (p<0.05), and the highest antioxidant activity was also found in F1, with a moderate antioxidant activity value. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between the addition of functional ingredients and the improvement of nutritional content and organoleptic scores. F1 was the best formulation in terms of taste and color. It was concluded that F1 is the most optimal combination. Further studies are needed to assess glycemic index and shelf life.
